Abstract

A shaving blade unit includes a housing having a front edge, a rear edge and side edges extending between the front and rear edges. One or more shaving blades are positioned between the front edge and the rear edge and have cutting edges arranged to define a first cutting region. The shaving unit further includes a discrete trimming blade assembly having a blade carrier with a cap, guard and a solitary trimming blade defining a second cutting region. A clip is arranged to retain the one or more shaving blades on the housing and function as an anode in an anode-cathode cell to inhibit corrosion of the shaving and trimming blades.

Claims (8)

1. A shaving blade unit comprising

a housing having a front edge and a rear edge and two side edges extending from the front edge to the rear edge;

one or more shaving blades pointed in a first general direction between the front edge and the rear edge, the one or more blades having cutting edges arranged to define a first cutting region in a first plane defined by the front edge, rear edge and one or more shaving blades,

a discrete trimming blade assembly comprising:

a blade carrier comprising a trimmer cap and a trimmer guard;

a solitary trimming blade connected to the blade carrier in between the trimmer cap and the trimmer guard, the trimmer guard, trimmer cap and trimming blade defining a second cutting region in a second plane defined by the trimmer guard, trimmer cap and trimming blade spaced from and at a different angle than the first cutting region;

the trimming blade having a cutting edge pointed in a second direction, generally opposite to the first general direction;

and a clip having a leg extending through an opening in the blade carrier arranged to secure the trimming blade assembly to the rear of the housing, wherein the clip is in electrical contact with both the one or more shaving blades and the trimming assembly, so as to form an anode-cathode cell in which the clip functions as a sacrificial anode that corrodes and the one or more shaving blades and trimming blade function as a cathode that is protected from corrosion.
