Methods and systems for enhancing internet experiences
View Patent ↗Previews of a target web site or other Internet-accessible resource are displayed in response to cursor control events. The previews are displayed in preview windows, which may have associated toolbars that include functions permitting various manipulations of the content displayed in the preview window. In some cases, the target web site is displayed as an image thereof in the preview window.
1. A computer-implemented method for displaying an RSS feed, wherein a first Web page is being displayed in a browser, comprising:
in response to a cursor control event associated with the first Web page, displaying in a preview window a preview of a second Web page linked to by the first Web page, wherein the second Web page is associated with an RSS feed; and
in response to a cursor control event associated with the second Web page, displaying the RSS feed in an area adjacent to the preview window.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein displaying the RSS feed comprises displaying the RSS feed in a drawer that slides out from the preview window.
3. A computer-implemented method for displaying search results, wherein a Web page is being displayed in a browser, and wherein the displayed Web page is part of a first Web site, comprising:
receiving user input selecting a text portion of the displayed Web page, wherein the selected text portion comprises neither a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) nor a hypertext link;
in response to a cursor control event, displaying a menu that lists a plurality of Web sites, wherein each Web site in the plurality differs from the first Web site;
receiving user input selecting a Web site from the plurality of Web sites;
submitting the selected text portion to the selected Web site as a search query;
receiving search results from the selected Web site; and
displaying the search results in a preview window.
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the cursor control event comprises a right-click.
5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the selected Web site comprises an on-line dictionary or an on-line encyclopedia.
6. The method of claim 3 , wherein the selected Web site comprises a search engine.
7. The method of claim 3 , wherein the preview window is superimposed over the Web page displayed in the browser.
