Use of serum amyloid A gene in diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and identification of anti-glaucoma agents
View Patent ↗The present invention provides compositions and methods for treating glaucoma, methods for diagnosing glaucoma, and methods for identifying agents which may be useful in the treatment of glaucoma. More specifically, the present invention describes the use of agents that modulate the expression of serum amyloid A.
1. A method for lowering intraocular pressure in a patient suffering from elevated intraocular pressure, said method comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a p38 MAPkinase inhibitor composition consisting of a small molecule agent that interacts with a gene encoding serum amyloid A protein (SAA), wherein said interaction modulates the expression of SAA, and wherein a decrease in expression of SAA lowers the intraocular pressure in a patient in need thereof.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the agent is selected from the group consisting of 4-[4-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-(4-pyridinyl)-1H-imidazol-2-yl]phenol (SB202190), 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-(4-methylsulfinylphenyl)-5-(4-pyridyl)-1H-imidazole (SB203580), 5-(2-amino-4-pyrimidinyl)-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-1-(4-piperidinyl) imidazole (SB 220025), 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-5-(4-pyridyl)-1H-imidazole (PD 169316), trans-4-[4-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-(2-methoxy-4-pyrimidinyl)-1H-imidazol-1-yl) cyclohexanol (SB 23063), 3-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-(pyridin-4-yl)-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-b] pyridine, 1-(5-tert-butyl-2-p-tolyl-2H-pyrazol-3yl)-3(4-(2-morpholin-4-yl-ethoxy) napthalene-1-yl)urea (BIRB-796), and 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-pyridin-4-yl-1, 2-dihydropyrazol-3-one (CalBio506126).
