Color filter substrate with openings and liquid crystal display apparatus having the same
View Patent ↗A color filter substrate is provided, including a substrate, a color filter layer formed on the substrate and including color filters where at least one of the color filters has an opening that partially exposes a portion of the substrate, a planarization layer reducing a step difference between the color filter layer and the portion of the substrate exposed by the opening, and a transparent electrode formed on the planarization layer.
1. A color filter substrate comprising:
a substrate;
a color filter layer formed on the substrate, the color filter layer including a plurality of color filters, each of the plurality of color filters having at least one opening therein that partially exposes a portion of the substrate;
a planarization layer comprising:
a first insulating layer formed in each of the openings of the color filters, wherein the first insulating layer fills the openings of the color filters and does not cover the color filters; and
a second insulating layer covering both the first insulating layer and the color filter layer to planarize a step difference, the second insulating layer being in contact with the color filter layer, wherein the first insulating layer is different from the second insulating layer; and
a transparent electrode formed on the planarization layer.
2. The color filter substrate of claim 1 , wherein a distance between the substrate and a surface of the second insulating layer is substantially uniform.
3. The color filter substrate of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second insulating layers includes an organic insulating layer.
4. The color filter substrate of claim 1 , wherein the first insulating layer includes an inorganic insulating layer, and the second insulating layer includes an organic insulating layer.
5. The color filter substrate of claim 1 , wherein the color filters include red (R), green (G) and blue (B) color filters.
6. The color filter substrate of claim 5 , wherein the sizes of the openings formed at the red (R), green (G) and blue (B) color filters, respectively, are different from each other.

The color filter substrate of claim 6 , wherein the size of the opening formed at the red (R) color filter is larger than that of the opening formed at the blue (B) color filter, and the size of the opening formed at the green (G) color filter is larger than that of the opening formed at the red (R) color filter.
8. The color filter substrate of claim 5 , wherein the sizes of the openings formed at the red (R), green (G) and blue (B) color filters, respectively, are the same, and numbers of the openings formed at the R, G and B color filters, respectively, are different from each other.

The color filter substrate of claim 8 , wherein the number of the openings formed at the red (R) color filter is more than that of the openings formed at the blue (B) color filter, and the number of the openings formed at the green (G) color filter is more than that of the openings formed at the red (R) color filter.
10. The color filter substrate of claim 1 wherein the at least one of the plurality of color filters has a plurality of openings.
