Abstract

The present invention relates to management of information relating to medical fluids, containers therefor, and medical fluid administration devices for administering such medical fluids to patients. Data tags (e.g., RFID tags) are generally associated with containers of the invention and may be electromagnetically read from and/or written to using an electromagnetic device, for example, that may be associated with a medical fluid administration device of the invention.

Claims (32)

1. A system for tracking data relating to a use of a syringe and fluid in a procedure with respect to a patient, the syringe having a data tag operable to have data written to and read from the data tag, the system comprising:

a filling station operable to fill the syringe with the fluid and comprising a first electromagnetic device operable to write data to the data tag relating to the fluid in the syringe;

a warmer comprising a second electromagnetic device operable to write data to the data tag relating to placing the syringe into and/or removing the syringe from the warmer; and

a power medical fluid administration device adapted to receive and support the syringe and comprising:

an administration device control; and

a third electromagnetic device electrically connected to the administration device control and operable to write data to the data tag relating to injection of the fluid into the patient.

2. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a hospital information system in electrical communications with the first, second, and/or third electromagnetic devices.

3. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a packaging station operable to place the syringe in a package and comprising a fourth electromagnetic device operable to write data to the data tag relating to the package, the fluid, and/or the syringe.

4. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a disposal station comprising a fourth electromagnetic device operable to write data to the data tag relating to disposal of the syringe.

5. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a storage area comprising a fourth electromagnetic device operable to write data to the data tag relating to placing the syringe into and/or removing the syringe from the storage area.

6. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a storage area comprising a fifth electromagnetic device operable to write data to the data tag relating to placing the syringe into and/or removing the syringe from the storage area.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fluid comprises contrast media for use in a medical imaging procedure.

8. A method for tracking data relating to a use of a syringe and fluid in a procedure with respect to a patient, the syringe having a data tag operable to have data written to and read from the data tag, the method comprising:

writing data to the data tag using a first electromagnetic device associated with a filling station, the data relating to the fluid with which the syringe is filled;

writing data to the data tag using a second electromagnetic device associated with a warmer, the data relating to placing the syringe into and/or removing the syringe from the warmer; and

writing data to the data tag using a third electromagnetic device associated with a power medical fluid administration device, the data relating to an injection of the fluid into the patient by the power medical fluid administration device.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

communicating the data written to the data tag from the filling station, the warmer, and/or the power medical fluid administration device to a hospital information system.

10. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

writing data to the data tag using a fourth electromagnetic device associated with a packaging station operable to place the syringe in a package, the data relating to the package, the fluid and/or the syringe.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

writing data to the data tag using a fifth electromagnetic device associated with a storage area, the data relating to placing the syringe into and/or removing the syringe from the storage area.

12. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

writing data to the data tag using a fourth electromagnetic device associated with a disposal station, the data relating to disposing of the syringe at the disposal station.

13. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

writing data to the data tag using a fourth electromagnetic device associated with a storage area, the data relating to placing the syringe into and/or removing the syringe from the storage area.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein the fluid comprises contrast media for use in a medical imaging procedure.
