Abstract

A device for use with a gripper is provided. A cartridge is provided that defines a plurality of cavities. A plurality of penetrating members are at least partially contained in the cavities of the cartridge. The penetrating members are slidably movable to extend outward from the cartridge to penetrate tissue. Each cavity has a longitudinal opening that provides access to an elongate portion of the penetrating member. A sterility barrier is coupled to the cartridge. The sterility barrier covers a plurality of the longitudinal openings. The sterility barrier is configured to be moved so that the elongate portion is accessed by the gripper without touching the barrier.

Claims (9)

1. A lancing system, comprising:

a disposable having a plurality of cavities; and

a plurality of bare penetrating members with no raised formations or molded parts at least partially contained in said cavities of the single disposable wherein the bare penetrating members are slidably movable to extend outward from lateral openings on said disposable to penetrate tissue; and

a bare penetrating member gripper that grips each of the bare penetrating members in order to couple the penetrating member to and driven by a penetrating member driver during a launch of the penetrating member, wherein the gripper creates a frictional grip with the bare penetrating member.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the bare penetrating member gripper is not positively coupled to the disposable.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the gripper has leg portions spread open elastically to create a frictional grip with the bare penetrating member.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the gripper has a tuning fork shaped configuration.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the gripper moves vertically relative to the bare penetrating member to engage an elongate portion of the penetrating member.

6. The system of claim 1 , further comprising: a gripper block for coupling the gripper to the penetrating member driver.
