Claims (21)

1. In combination, a padlock and a padlock display package, the padlock having a shackle lockable with a lock body, the padlock display package comprising:

a card having a front side and a back side;

a hasp extending from the front side of the card to define at least a portion of a slot, wherein the padlock is secured to the display package when the locked shackle is positioned through the slot; and

a padlock engaging feature spaced apart from the hasp and configured to limit clockwise and counterclockwise swinging movement of the padlock with respect to the package in a direction substantially parallel to the card.

2. The combination of claim 1 , wherein the card further comprises a cut-out configured to allow the lock body to extend beyond the back side of the card.

3. The combination of claim 1 , wherein the card further comprises a pocket for receiving a key configured to unlock the padlock.

4. The combination of claim 3 , further comprising a fastener for affixing the key to the pocket.

5. The combination of claim 3 , wherein the pocket comprises a cavity extending from the front side of the card.

6. The combination of claim 1 , wherein the display package comprises a plurality of hasps for attaching a plurality of padlocks to the display package.

7. The combination of claim 1 , wherein the padlock engaging feature comprises a post configured such that the shackle may be positioned around the post when the shackle is positioned through the slot.

8. The combination of claim 7 , wherein the post defines a portion of the slot.

9. The combination of claim 7 , wherein an outer perimeter of the post is sized to match an inner perimeter of the shackle and an upper surface of the lock body.

10. The combination of claim 7 , wherein the display package further comprises an anchor adapted to be positioned between the post and the lock body, such that the anchor engages a front portion of the shackle and a back edge of the post to limit movement of the padlock in a direction substantially perpendicular to the front side of the card.

11. The combination of claim 1 , wherein the padlock engaging feature limits movement of the padlock in a direction substantially parallel to the card by engaging the shackle.

12. A method for displaying a padlock having a shackle lockable with a lock body, the method comprising:

providing a display package having a card with a hasp extending from a front side of the card to define at least a portion of a slot and a padlock engaging feature spaced apart from the hasp; and

positioning the shackle of the padlock through the slot such that the padlock engaging feature further limits clockwise and counterclockwise swinging movement of the padlock with respect to the package beyond an amount limited by the hasp in a direction substantially parallel to the card.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the padlock engaging feature comprises a post, the method further comprising positioning the shackle around the post.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising inserting an anchor between the post and an upper surface of the lock body, such that the anchor engages a front portion of the shackle and a back edge of the post to limit movement of the padlock in a direction substantially perpendicular to the front side of the card.

15. The method of claim 12 , further comprising securing a key to the card such that the key is at least partially received in a pocket in the card.

16. The method of claim 12 , wherein positioning the shackle of the padlock through the slot comprises inserting an end of the shackle of the padlock through the slot and locking the shackle into engagement with the lock body.
