System and method for selecting a domain in a network environment including IMS
In one embodiment, a domain selection method is disclosed for operation in a network environment including a circuit-switched (CS) network and an Internet Protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) network. Policy criteria information related to a subscriber is maintained in association with a network node. A proper network domain is selected with respect to an incoming call directed to the subscriber based on at least a portion of the policy criteria.
1 . A network node operable in an Internet Protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) network, said network node comprising:
means for maintaining policy criteria related to a subscriber operable to be served by said network node; and
means for selecting a proper network domain with respect to routing an incoming call directed to said subscriber, wherein said selecting is based upon at least a portion of said policy criteria.
2 . The network node as recited in claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of said policy criteria is operable to be set by said subscriber using a user equipment (UE) device operable with circuit-switched (CS) signaling.
3 . The network node as recited in claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of said policy criteria is operable to be set by said subscriber using a UE device operable with IMS signaling.
4 . The network node as recited in claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of said policy criteria comprises operator-based policies.
5 . The network node as recited in claim 4 , wherein said operator-based policies relate to termination of a call originated in an IMS domain.
6 . The network node as recited in claim 4 , wherein said operator-based policies relate to termination of a call originated in a CS domain.
7 . The network node as recited in claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of said policy criteria comprises user-based policies.
8 . The network node as recited in claim 7 , wherein said user-based policies relate to termination of a call originated in an IMS domain.
9 . The network node as recited in claim 7 , wherein said user-based policies relate to termination of a call originated in a CS domain.
10 . The network node as recited in claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of said policy criteria is based on calling line identity (CLI) information.
11 . The network node as recited in claim 1 , further comprising means for resolving a conflict between two or more policies when applied with respect to routing said incoming call.
12 . A domain selection method operable in a network environment including a circuit-switched (CS) network and an Internet Protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) network, comprising:
maintaining policy criteria related to a subscriber operable to be served by a network node; and
selecting a proper network domain with respect to routing an incoming call directed to said subscriber, wherein said selecting is based upon at least a portion of said policy criteria.
13 . The domain selection method as recited in claim 12 , wherein at least a portion of said policy criteria is operable to be set by said subscriber using a user equipment (UE) device operable with CS signaling.
14 . The domain selection method as recited in claim 12 , wherein at least a portion of said policy criteria is operable to be set by said subscriber using a UE device operable with IMS signaling.
15 . The domain selection method as recited in claim 12 , wherein at least a portion of said policy criteria comprises operator-based policies.
16 . The domain selection method as recited in claim 15 , wherein said operator-based policies relate to termination of a call originated in an IMS domain.
17 . The domain selection method as recited in claim 15 , wherein said operator-based policies relate to termination of a call originated in a CS domain.
18 . The domain selection method as recited in claim 12 , wherein at least a portion of said policy criteria comprises user-based policies.
19 . The domain selection method as recited in claim 18 , wherein said user-based policies relate to termination of a call originated in an IMS domain.
20 . The domain selection method as recited in claim 18 , wherein said user-based policies relate to termination of a call originated in a CS domain.
21 . The domain selection method as recited in claim 12 , wherein at least a portion of said policy criteria is based on calling line identity (CLI) information.
22 . The domain selection method as recited in claim 12 , further comprising resolving a conflict between two or more policies when applied with respect to routing said incoming call.
