Abstract

A game call having a mouthpiece with an internal latex diaphragm and secured to said mouthpiece is a diaphragm plunger which is operable by pressing an artificial tongue-like pliable section into contacting with the diaphragm, thereby changing the pitch of the sound produced.

Claims (31)

1. A method of making animal game sounds comprising the steps of:

providing an animal game call including a mouthpiece body having an air inlet end and an air outlet end, a diaphragm disposed within the mouthpiece body between the air inlet end and the air outlet end, a pliable segment having a length along an air flow axis of the animal game call and being spaced from and opposing the diaphragm, an opening in a central portion of an outer surface of the mouthpiece body, the opening being wider than an inner diameter of the air inlet end exposing a portion of the pliable segment to provide access to the pliable segment, and a plunger adapted to depress the pliable segment;

blowing air into the air inlet end and through the mouthpiece body, causing the diaphragm to vibrate and produce sound; and

receiving a finger press at the plunger to change a position of the pliable segment by applying an inward force to the pliable segment through the opening while the air is blown through the mouthpiece body and thereby causing a change in characteristics of sound from the diaphragm.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the pliable segment changes position to cause a venturi effect to occur over the diaphragm while the air is flowing through the mouthpiece body, thereby changing a characteristic of sound from the diaphragm.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the pliable segment contacts a portion of the diaphragm and causes a change in vibration of the diaphragm.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the animal game call includes a sound chamber structure disposed on a side of the diaphragm opposite the pliable segment.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the sound chamber structure includes a trough.

6. A method of making animal game sounds comprising the steps of:

providing an animal game call including a mouthpiece body having an air inlet end and an air outlet end, a diaphragm disposed within the mouthpiece body between the air inlet end and the air outlet end, a pliable segment having a length along an air flow axis of the animal game call and spaced from and opposing the diaphragm, a sound chamber structure disposed on a side of the diaphragm opposite the pliable segment, an opening in a central portion of an outer surface of the mouthpiece body, the opening being wider than an inner diameter of the air inlet exposing a portion of the pliable segment to provide access to the pliable segment, and a plunger adapted to depress the pliable segment;

blowing air into the air inlet end and through the mouthpiece body, causing the diaphragm to vibrate and produce sound; and

receiving a finger press at the plunger to press the pliable segment inwardly against a portion of the diaphragm while the air is blown through the mouthpiece body and thereby causing a change in vibration of the diaphragm.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein the sound chamber structure is generally dome-shaped.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the sound chamber structure includes a trough.

9. The method of claim 6 wherein the animal game call includes a plunger adapted to depress the pliable segment and the plunger presses the pliable segment against a portion of the diaphragm.

10. A method of generating sounds comprising the steps of:

providing a tube having a mouthpiece end and an outlet end, the tube having an opening in a central portion of the tube;

providing a diaphragm disposed inside said tube between said mouthpiece end and said outlet end;

providing a pliable segment of said tube which is configured to approach said diaphragm when said pliable segment is pressed into said tube, the opening in the tube exposing a portion of the pliable segment to provide access to the pliable segment, the pliable segment having a length along a central air flow axis of the tube;

providing a plunger configured to press against the pliable segment;

causing a stream of mouth-blown air to flow into said mouthpiece end and through said tube and causing sound to be generated by said diaphragm; and

changing a location of an internal side of said pliable segment while said stream of air is flowing through said tube by receiving a finger press against the plunger and thereby applying an inward force towards the air flow axis, and thereby causing a change in characteristics of sound being generated by said diaphragm.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein said step of changing a location of an internal side of said pliable segment, while said stream of air is flowing through said tube, said pliable segment causes a venturi effect to occur over said diaphragm, thereby changing a characteristic of sound generated by said diaphragm.

12. The method of claim 10 wherein said pliable segment contacts said diaphragm and causes a change in vibration state of said diaphragm.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising the steps of:

further pressing the pliable segment so as to force said diaphragm to contact a non-central portion of a structure disposed opposite said diaphragm with respect to said pliable section, thereby changing an amount of free edge of said diaphragm which is available for vibration.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein said structure further comprises a central trough.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein said structure is coupled to said diaphragm and detachably coupled to said tube, and said central trough does not extend through an entire width of the structure.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein said tube comprises a top half and a bottom half, a pair of “O” rings holding said top half to said bottom half.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein said pliable segment is a detachable pliable pad forming a portion of said tube.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein said mouthpiece end has a smaller cross section than said outlet end.
