Abstract

An apparatus and method for indicating a current condition of a medical infusion pump is disclosed. The apparatus includes a memory configured to store two or more color codes, each color code corresponding to a condition of the medical infusion pump and a color. The apparatus further includes a monitor. The apparatus also includes a programmable circuit in electrical communication with the memory and the monitor, the programmable circuit programmed to generate a graphical user interface displaying a color upon detection of a condition. The method includes, upon detecting a condition in the medical infusion pump, displaying a color on a monitor associated to the medical infusion pump.

Claims (35)

1 . An apparatus for indicating a current condition of a medical infusion pump, the apparatus comprising:

a memory configured to store two or more color codes, each color code corresponding to a condition of the medical infusion pump and a color;

a monitor;

a programmable circuit in electrical communication with the memory and the monitor, the programmable circuit programmed to generate a graphical user interface displaying a color upon detection of a condition.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the programmable circuit is configured to display the color on a portion of the monitor.

3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the condition is selected from the group consisting of:

a portion of a hospital coding system;

a medical infusion pump warning condition;

a location at which the pump is used;

a drug currently administered by the medical infusion pump; and

an alert condition.

4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the color code includes an image representing a graphical representation of a region of a hospital.

5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the color code includes a background image on the display.

6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the programmable circuit is programmed to change the color on the monitor while detecting the condition.

7 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the programmable circuit is programmed to cross-fade the color on the monitor while detecting the condition.

8 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the programmable circuit is programmed to flash the color on the monitor while detecting the condition.

9 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the color includes patterns of color.

10 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the color is a text color.

11 . A method of indicating a current condition of a medical infusion pump, the method comprising:

upon detecting a condition in the medical infusion pump, displaying a color on a monitor associated to the medical infusion pump.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein displaying comprises displaying the color on a portion of the monitor.

13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the condition is selected from the group consisting of:

a portion of a hospital coding system;

a medical infusion pump warning condition;

a location at which the pump is used;

a drug currently administered by the medical infusion pump; and

an alert condition.

14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the color code includes an image representing a graphical representation of a region of a hospital.

15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the color code includes a background image on the display.

16 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising changing the color on the monitor while detecting the condition.

17 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising cross-fading the color on the monitor while detecting the condition.

18 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising flashing the color on the monitor while detecting the condition.

19 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the color includes patterns of color.

20 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the color is a text color.

21 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the color relates to a difference between an original pump parameter and a non-original pump parameter.
