Abstract

A device for electrically connecting a plurality of batteries includes a member including a handle and two arms extending from the handle. The handle includes a first portion, a second portion spaced apart from the first portion, and a connector extending between the first portion and the second portion. The member also includes a contact coupled to a first of the two arms for contacting at least a portion of a battery terminal when the device is secured to a battery. The first of the two arms is configured for securing the device to a first side of a battery and a second of the two arms is configured for securing the device to a second side of the battery.

Claims (44)

1. A device for electrically connecting a plurality of batteries comprising:

a member including a handle and two arms extending from the handle; and

a contact coupled to a first of the two arms for contacting at least a portion of a battery terminal when the device is secured to a battery;

wherein the first of the two arms is configured for securing the device to a first side of a battery and a second of the two arms is configured for securing the device to a second side of the battery; and

wherein the second of the two arms includes a brace for restricting movement of the device relative to the battery.

2. The device of claim 1 wherein at least a portion of the member comprises a relatively flexible material so that the two arms may be clamped to opposite sides of a battery.

3. The device of claim 1 wherein the arms and the handle have a generally U-shaped configuration.

4. The device of claim 1 further comprising a wire coupled to the contact.

5. The device of claim 4 further comprising a post coupled to the member and electrically connected to the contact by the wire.

6. The device of claim 1 further comprising a plurality of ribs provided on the brace for providing enhanced structural rigidity for the brace.

7. The device of claim 1 wherein the brace comprises a base and an extension, the extension configured for engaging a feature of a battery when the device is secured to the battery.

8. The device of claim 1 wherein the contact comprises a material comprising lead.

9. The device of claim 1 wherein the first of the two arms comprises a coupler and the contact includes a projection for coupling the contact to the coupler.

10. A system for electrically coupling a plurality of batteries together for a battery charging operation comprising:

a first member comprising a handle portion and two arms extending from the handle portion;

a second member comprising a handle portion and two arms extending from the handle portion;

a first contact provided on one of the two arms of the first member and configured for engaging a first battery terminal;

a second contact provided on one of the two arms of the second member and configured for engaging a second battery terminal; and

a cable electrically connecting the first contact to the second contact.

11. The system of claim 10 wherein the system is configured for securing the first contact to the first battery terminal and for securing the second contact to the second battery terminal such that the first battery and second battery are electrically connected in series.

12. The system of claim 10 wherein at least a portion of each of the first member and the second member comprises a relatively flexible material.

13. The system of claim 10 wherein a second of the two arms of the first member includes a bracket for engaging a feature on a battery and a second of the two arms of the second member includes a bracket for engaging a feature on a battery.

14. A system for electrically coupling a plurality of batteries together for a battery charging operation comprising:

a first member comprising a handle portion and two arms extending from the handle portion, the handle portion including a first portion, a second portion spaced apart from the first portion, and a bridge connecting the first portion to the second portion;

a second member comprising a handle portion and two arms extending from the handle portion, the handle portion including a first portion, a second portion spaced apart from the first portion, and a bridge connecting the first portion to the second portion;

a first contact provided on one of the two arms of the first member and configured for engaging a battery terminal;

a second contact provided on one of the two arms of the second member and configured for engaging a battery terminal; and

a cable electrically connecting the first contact to the second contact;

wherein the first member includes a web of material adjacent the bridge connecting the first portion and the second portion of the handle portion of the first member.

15. The system of claim 14 wherein the second member includes a web of material adjacent the bridge connecting the first portion and the second portion of the handle portion of the second member.

16. A battery charging arrangement comprising:

a first battery comprising a positive terminal and a negative terminal;

a second battery comprising a positive terminal and a negative terminal;

a first member coupled to the first battery and comprising a handle portion and two arms coupled to the handle portion;

a second member coupled to the second battery and comprising a handle portion and two arms coupled to the handle portion;

a first contact provided on a first of the two arms of the first member and provided in contact with the positive terminal of the first battery;

a second contact provided on a first of the two arms of the second member provided in contact with the negative terminal of the second battery; and

a cable electrically connecting the first contact to the second contact such that the positive terminal of the first battery is electrically connected to the negative terminal of the second battery.

The battery charging arrangement of claim 16 wherein the first of the two arms of the first member is coupled to a first side of the first battery and a second of the two arms of the first member is coupled to a second side of the first battery, the second side of the first battery being parallel to the first side of the first battery.

The battery charging arrangement of claim 17 wherein the first of the two arms of the second member is coupled to a first side of the second battery and a second of the two arms of the second member is coupled to a second side of the second battery, the second side of the second battery being parallel to the second side of the first battery.

19. The battery charging arrangement of claim 18 further comprising a third member coupled to one of the negative terminal of the first battery and the positive terminal of the second battery, the third member comprising a handle portion and two arms coupled to the handle portion.

20. The battery charging arrangement of claim 19 wherein the third member comprises a contact coupled to a first of the two arms of the third member and a post coupled to the member and electrically connected to the contact of the third member.

21. The battery charging arrangement of claim 20 further comprising a wire electrically connecting the post to a charging device.

22. The battery charging arrangement of claim 21 further comprising a wire connecting the post to the contact of the third member to electrically connect the post and the contact.
