Abstract

An inkjet printer cradle that has a body configured to correctly position a removable inkjet cartridge within an inkjet printer, the removable inkjet cartridge having a printhead and an air inlet. The cradle has an air compressor for supplying compressed air to the air inlet of the removable inkjet cartridge such that an outlet from the air compressor couples with the air inlet upon engagement with the removable inkjet cartridge into the body. The cradle also provides a print media transport assembly for transporting print media past the printhead when the removable inkjet cartridge is positioned by the body.

Claims (9)

1. An inkjet printer cradle comprising:

a body configured to receive therein a removable print cartridge, the removable print cartridge having a printhead and an air inlet;

an air compressor having an air outlet from which compressed air is supplied, the air compressor being positioned on the body to effect engagement of the air outlet with the air inlet upon receipt of the removable inkjet cartridge into the body;

a print media transport assembly for transporting print media past the printhead; and

a drive motor mounted to the body, the drive motor having a spindle directly coupled to an impeller of the air compressor and a gear train coupled to the print media transport assembly.

2. An inkjet printer cradle according to claim 1 wherein the body defines a recess dimensioned to locate the removable print cartridge.

3. An inkjet printer cradle according to claim 2 wherein the air outlet terminates within the recess.

4. An inkjet printer cradle according to claim 3 wherein the air outlet traverses a portion of the body defining an internal shelf of the recess.

5. An inkjet printer cradle according to claim 1 wherein the air outlet has a termination configured to assist piercing of a seal over the air inlet.
