Abstract

Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for retrieving audio signals. A video signal is received that is associated with a content identifier and an alternate audio tag. In response to the alternate audio tag, a query is made for an alternate audio source that corresponds to the content identifier. A query result is received that identifies at least one alternate audio signal that corresponds to the content identifier and that is separately available from the video signal.

Claims (44)

1. A method of retrieving an audio signal, comprising:

receiving a video signal comprising audio content, an alternate audio tag indicating an alternate audio source is available, video time stamps, a video content identifier and a first threshold time, and a listing of radio frequencies of radio stations broadcasting alternate audio sources associated with the content identifier;

inspecting the video signal for the alternate audio tag;

when the alternate audio tag is detected, then presenting a prompt on a display device that displays the listing of radio frequencies of radio stations;

querying a social network for the video content identifier;

adding a query result to the listing of radio frequencies of radio stations;

receiving a selection of an alternate audio source from the listing of radio frequencies of radio stations;

tuning to an amplitude modulated frequency signal at which the alternate audio source is broadcast;

separately receiving the amplitude modulated frequency signal comprising audio time stamps and a second threshold time;

comparing the audio time stamps to the video time stamps; and

when one of the audio time stamps exceeds a corresponding one of the video time stamps by a determined threshold time, then delaying the amplitude modulated frequency signal until the audio time stamp is within the determined threshold time of the corresponding video time stamp, the determined threshold time being the smaller one of the first threshold time and the second threshold time.

2. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising searching for additional alternate audio sources.

3. The method according to claim 2 , further comprising receiving a request to retrieve the alternate audio source.

4. The method according to claim 3 , further comprising receiving a satellite broadcast.

5. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising synchronizing the video signal and the amplitude modulated frequency signal.

6. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising displaying the video signal.

7. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising displaying the listing of radio frequencies of radio stations in a user interface.

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein when the video time stamp exceeds the corresponding audio time stamp by the threshold time, then delaying the video signal until the video time stamp is within the threshold time of the audio time stamp.

9. A system for retrieving an audio signal, comprising:

a processor;

memory; and

code stored in the memory that when executed causes the processor at least to:

receive a video signal comprising audio content, an alternate audio tag indicating an alternate audio source is available, video time stamps, a video content identifier and a first threshold time, and a listing of radio frequencies of radio stations broadcasting alternate audio sources associated with the content identifier;

inspect the video signal for the alternate audio tag;

when the alternate audio tag is detected, then presenting a prompt on a display device that displays the listing of radio frequencies of radio stations;

query a social network for the video content identifier; add a query result to the listing of radio frequencies of radio stations;

receive a selection of an alternate audio source from the listing of radio frequencies of radio stations;

tune to an amplitude modulated frequency signal at which the alternate audio source is broadcast;

separately receiving the amplitude modulated frequency signal comprising audio time stamps and a second threshold time;

compare the audio time stamps to the video time stamps; and

when one of the audio time stamps exceeds a corresponding one of the video time stamps by a determined threshold time, then delay the amplitude modulated frequency signal until the audio time stamp is within the determined threshold time of the corresponding video time stamp, the determined threshold time being the smaller one of the first threshold time and the second threshold time.

10. The system according to claim 9 , wherein the code further causes the processor to tune to a satellite broadcast.

11. The system according to claim 9 , wherein the code further causes the processor to display the video signal.

12. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing computer-readable instructions for performing a method, the method comprising:

receiving a video signal comprising audio content, an alternate audio tag indicating an alternate audio source is available, video time stamps, a video content identifier and a first threshold time, and a listing of radio frequencies of radio stations broadcasting alternate audio sources associated with the content identifier;

inspecting the video signal for the alternate audio tag;

when the alternate audio tag is detected, then presenting a prompt on a display device that displays the listing of radio frequencies of radio stations;

querying a social network for the video content identifier;

adding a query result to the listing of radio frequencies of radio stations;

receiving a selection of an alternate audio source from the listing of radio frequencies of radio stations;

tuning to an amplitude modulated frequency signal at which the alternate audio source is broadcast;

separately receiving the amplitude modulated frequency signal comprising audio time stamps and a second threshold time;

comparing the audio time stamps to the video time stamps; and

when one of the audio time stamps exceeds a corresponding one of the video time stamps by a determined threshold time, then delaying the amplitude modulated frequency signal until the audio time stamp is within the determined threshold time of the corresponding video time stamp, the determined threshold time being the smaller one of the first threshold time and the second threshold time.
