Abstract

Systems and methods are provided that relate to a platform, techniques, and processes for verifying the precision, sensitivity, accuracy, reproducibility, and other characteristics of biological tests, such as DNA identification or other tests or assays. According to various embodiments, a logic engine can guide a user to arrange, conduct, and record studies designed to ensure that chemistry kits and laboratory operations return dependably valid results. The validation platform can manage the design of the entire validation workflow, from initiation of a verification project for one or more chemistry kits or other assays or equipment, to design of individual studies to test the accuracy, sensitivity, reproducibility, and other parameters of biological testing. The validation engine can automatically generate a sample plate layout to conduct individual assays. The validation engine can likewise automatically generate unified data output recording the studies which were undertaken, the assays used, tests results, and other data.

Claims (30)

1 . A method of generating data output associated with a validation project, comprising:

accessing sets of output data generated by respective a plurality of studies conducted in a validation project to validate a chemical assay; and

generating validation project data output comprising the sets of output data in a unified electronic format.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the chemical assay comprises a genetic analysis.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of studies comprises at least any two of a precision study, a sensitivity study, an accuracy study, a reproducibility study, and a mixture study.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the sets of output data each comprise at least one of emission data from a biological sample, amplification data, base calling data, baseline data, and threshold cycle data.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the unified electronic format comprises a single electronic file containing the sets of output data stored in a uniform record format.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the unified electronic format comprises a plurality of electronic files containing the sets of output data stored in a uniform record format.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the validation project data output comprises data analysis results.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the data analysis results comprise at least one statistical analysis of the sets of data output.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the unified electronic format of the validation project output data comprises a format containing fields consistent with standards criteria for validating chemical assays for use in analyzing forensic evidence.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the validation project output data is exportable to other data processing modules.

11 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising presenting the validation project output data to a user via a graphical user interface.

12 . A system for generating data output associated with a validation project, comprising:

an input module configured to access sets of output data generated by respective a plurality of studies conducted in a validation project to validate a chemical assay; and

a validation project output module, communicating with the input module, the validation project output module generating validation project data output comprising the sets of output data in a unified electronic format.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the chemical assay comprises a genetic analysis.

14 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of studies comprises at least any two of a precision study, a sensitivity study, an accuracy study, a reproducibility study, and a mixture study.

15 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the sets of output data each comprise at least one of emission data from a biological sample, amplification data, base calling data, baseline data, and threshold cycle data.

16 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the unified electronic format comprises a single electronic file containing the sets of output data stored in a uniform record format.

17 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the unified electronic format comprises a plurality of electronic files containing the sets of output data stored in a uniform record format.

18 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the validation project data output comprises data analysis results.

19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the data analysis results comprise at least one statistical analysis of the sets of data output.

20 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the unified electronic format of the validation project output data comprises a format containing fields consistent with standards criteria for validating chemical assays for use in analyzing forensic evidence.

21 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the validation project output data is exportable to other data processing modules.

22 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the validation project output module presents the validation project output data to a user via a graphical user interface.

23 . A set of validation project output data, the validation project output data being generated by a method comprising:

accessing sets of output data generated by respective a plurality of studies conducted in a validation project to validate a chemical assay; and

generating validation project data output comprising the sets of output data in a unified electronic format.

24 . The set of validation project output data of claim 23 , wherein the chemical assay comprises a genetic analysis.
