Abstract

An automatic banking machine includes a card reader for reading user cards, and a cash dispenser. A movable camera is positionable within the ATM housing. The automated banking machine carries out transactions related to user accounts based on information read from cards. Service personnel are enabled to direct the camera toward regions of machine components while conducting service activities that are not directly visible by a servicer. A camera assembly includes a microphone to sense sounds associated with machine components during test operations. The generated data may be used by an on-site servicer, or sent to an entity at a remote location. The visual images may be used to enhance diagnostic and servicing capabilities.

Claims (81)

1. A method comprising:

(a) generating image data corresponding to a visual image of a region of at least one serviceable component within an automated banking machine through operation of a first image capture device, wherein the banking machine includes a card reader operative to read user cards including indicia usable to identify at least one financial account, wherein the first image capture device is positioned so as to be directed toward the region;

(b) displaying the visual image of the region on a first display screen in operatively supported connection with the automated banking machine.

2. The method according to claim 1 and further comprising:

(c) sending data corresponding to the image data from the machine to at least one remote computer.

3. The method according to claim 2 and further comprising:

(d) displaying the visual image through a second display screen disposed at a location remote from the automated banking machine, wherein the second display screen is in operative connection with the at least one remote computer.

4. The method according to claim 3 and further comprising:

(e) communicating between a servicer at the automated banking machine and a person viewing the second display screen.

5. The method according to claim 3 and further comprising:

(e) operatively connecting a diagnostic article and an article reading device of the automated banking machine; and

(f) sending diagnostic data associated with the at least one serviceable component to the at least one remote computer responsive to data included on the diagnostic article.

6. The method according to claim 5 and further comprising:

(g) conducting at least one diagnostic test of the at least one serviceable component responsive to data included on the diagnostic article.

7. The method according to claim 3 and further comprising:

(e) generating sonic data through operation of the machine corresponding to sonic signals sensed through operation of a microphone in operative connection with the machine;

(f) communicating data corresponding to the sonic data to the at least one remote computer.

8. The method according to claim 1 and further comprising:

(c) generating sonic data through operation of the machine corresponding to sonic signals sensed through operation of a microphone, wherein the microphone is in operative connection with the first image capture device;

(d) sending data corresponding to the sonic data from the automated banking machine to at least one remote computer.

9. The method according to claim 1 and further comprising:

(c) manually moving the first image capture device to be positioned to be directed toward the region,

wherein in (a) the region is not directly visually perceivable from outside the machine.

10. The method according to claim 1 wherein the automated banking machine includes at least one processor, wherein the at least one processor is in operative connection with a universal serial bus (USB) port, and further comprising:

(c) prior to (a), connecting the first image capture device to a universal serial bus (USB) port on the machine.

11. The method according to claim 1 and further comprising:

(c) prior to (a), directing radiation onto the region through operation of a radiation source in operative connection with the first image capture device.

12. The method according to claim 11 wherein the radiation source produces visible light, wherein (c) includes illuminating the region with visible light.

13. The method according to claim 11 wherein the radiation source produces nonvisible radiation, wherein (c) includes imparting nonvisible radiation to the region.

14. The method according to claim 1 and further comprising:

(c) generating further image data corresponding to a further visual image of a further region within or outside a housing of the automated banking machine through operation of a second image capture device, wherein the second image capture device is mounted in operatively fixed relation with the housing; and

(d) displaying the further visual image on the first display screen.

15. A method comprising:

(a) opening a door of a housing of an automated banking machine to access an interior area of the housing, wherein the automated banking machine includes a card reader operative to read indicia on cards usable to identify financial accounts, a cash dispenser, and a display;

(b) subsequent to (a) and while the door is open, moving a camera within the housing, wherein the camera has a field of view not directly visible through the open door of the housing from outside the housing;

(c) operating the automated banking machine to cause output through the display of at least one image corresponding to the field of view of the camera.

16. The method according to claim 15 and further comprising:

(d) prior to (b), operatively connecting the camera and a universal serial bus (USB) port of the banking machine.

17. The method according to claim 16 , and further comprising:

(e) operatively connecting a diagnostic article and the automated banking machine, wherein responsive to the connection of the diagnostic article the banking machine is operatively enabled to output diagnostic data.

18. The method according to claim 17 , and further comprising:

(f) illuminating the field of view through operation of at least one radiation emitting device, wherein the at least one radiation emitting device is in operative connection with the camera.

19. The method according to claim 18 wherein the at least one radiation emitting device is operative to emit non-visible radiation, and wherein (f) includes operating the at least one radiation emitting device to emit non-visible radiation.

20. The method according to claim 18 and further comprising:

(g) sensing with a microphone in operative connection with the machine, sounds corresponding to the field of view;

(h) outputting from the machine, sound signals corresponding to the sounds sensed in (g).

21. The method according to claim 20 and further comprising:

sending from the machine to at least one remote computer, image data corresponding to the at least one image.

22. The method according to claim 21 wherein (h) includes sending the sound signals from the machine to the at least one remote computer.

23. The method according to claim 22 and further comprising:

(j) subsequent to (c), moving the camera so the camera has a different field of view.

24. The method according to claim 23 and further comprising:

(k) operating a further camera on the automated banking machine, wherein the further camera has a further field of view;

(l) operating the automated banking machine to cause to be output on a display of the machine, at least one further image corresponding to the at least one further field of view.

25. The method according to claim 24 and further comprising:

(m) carrying out at least one test operation with the automated banking machine,

wherein in (c) the at least one image is output and in (h) the sound signals are output by the machine during the at least one test operation.

26. The method according to claim 25 and further comprising:

(n) outputting the at least one image through an output device in operative connection with the at least one remote computer.

27. The method according to claim 15 and further comprising:

(d) subsequent to (c), moving the camera, wherein the camera has a further field of view;

(e) operating the automated banking machine to cause output through the display of at least one further image corresponding to the further field of view.

28. The method according to claim 15 and further comprising:

(d) operating the machine to cause data corresponding to the at least one image to be sent from the machine to at least one remote computer.

29. The method according to claim 15 and further comprising:

(d) illuminating the field of view through operation of at least one radiation emitting device in operative connection with the camera.

30. The method according to claim 15 and further comprising:

(d) during at least a portion of (c), operating at least one component of the machine in the field of view.

31. The method according to claim 30 and further comprising:

(e) subsequent to (d), servicing the at least one component.

32. The method according to claim 15 and further comprising:

(d) during at least a portion of (c), sensing with a microphone, sounds generated within the field of view;

(e) outputting through operation of the machine, sound data corresponding to sounds sensed in (d).

33. A method comprising:

(a) operating at least one image capture device within an automated banking machine including a cash dispenser, at least one computer, and at least one reader operative to read data usable to identify at least one financial account, in generating image data which corresponds to at least one visual image of an interior region within the machine;

(b) subsequent to step (a), displaying the at least one visual image through a local display located on site at the machine; and

(c) subsequent to step (a), sending data corresponding to the image data from the site toward at least one remote computer in operative connection with at least one remote display in enabling the at least one visual image to be displayed through the at least one remote display, wherein both the at least one remote computer and the at least one remote display are located remotely from the site.

34. The method according to claim 33

wherein the at least one image capture device comprises at least one machine camera mounted inside of the machine, wherein the at least one camera has a field of view directed toward the interior region, and wherein step (a) includes operating the at least one machine camera in generating the image data,

wherein the local display comprises a display screen of the machine, wherein step (b) includes displaying the at least one visual image on the display screen,

wherein step (c) includes operating the at least one computer to cause the data corresponding to the image data to be sent from the machine toward the at least one remote computer.
