Abstract

To provide a coating fluid for forming an undercoat layer having high stability, a high quality and long-life electrophotographic photoreceptor capable of forming a high quality image in various environments, with which image defects such as black spots or color spots hardly occur, an image forming apparatus using such a photoreceptor, and an electrophotographic cartridge using such a photoreceptor. A coating fluid for forming un undercoat layer of an electrophotographic photoreceptor containing titanium oxide particles and a binder resin, characterized in that titanium oxide agglomerated secondary particles in the coating fluid have a volume average particle size of at most 0.1 μm and a cumulative 90% particle size of at most 0.3 μm.

Claims (10)

1. A coating fluid for forming an undercoat layer of an electrophotographic photoreceptor containing metal oxide particles and a binder resin, wherein agglomerated secondary particles of the metal oxide particles in the coating fluid, obtained from metal oxide particles having an average primary particle size of at least 1 nm, have a volume average particle size of at most 0.1 μm and a cumulative 90% particle size of at most 0.16 μm, wherein the metal oxide particles are titanium oxide particles or aluminum oxide particles.

2. An electrophotographic photoreceptor, comprising an electroconductive substrate, an undercoat layer containing a binder resin and metal oxide particles formed on the electroconductive substrate, and a photosensitive layer formed on the undercoat layer, wherein in a dispersion liquid having the undercoat layer dispersed in a solvent mixture of methanol and 1-propanol in a weight ratio of 7:3, metal oxide agglomerated secondary particles, obtained from metal oxide particles having an average primary particle size of at least 1 nm, have a volume average particle size of at most 0.1 μm and a cumulative 90% particle size of at most 0.16 μm, wherein the metal oxide particles are titanium oxide particles or aluminum oxide particles.

3. An image forming apparatus comprising an electrophotographic photoreceptor, a charging means to charge the photoreceptor, an exposure means to expose the charged photoreceptor to form an electrostatic latent image, a developing means to develop the latent image with a toner, and a transfer means to transfer the toner to an object to which the toner is to be transferred, wherein the photoreceptor is the electrophotographic photoreceptor according to claim 2 .

4. The image forming apparatus according to claim 3 , wherein the charging means is disposed to be in contact with the electrophotographic photoreceptor.

5. The image forming apparatus according to claim 3 , wherein the wavelength of a light to be used for the exposure means is from 350 nm to 600 nm.

6. An electrophotographic cartridge comprising at least one of an electrophotographic photoreceptor, a charging means to charge the photoreceptor, an exposure means to expose the charged photoreceptor to form an electrostatic latent image, a developing means to develop the latent image with a toner, and a transfer means to transfer the toner to an object to which the toner is to be transferred, wherein the photoreceptor is the electrophotographic photoreceptor according to claim 2 .

7. The electrophotographic cartridge according to claim 6 , wherein the charging means is disposed to be in contact with the electrophotographic photoreceptor.

8. The coating fluid according to claim 1 , wherein the binder resin comprises a polyamide resin.

9. The coating fluid according to claim 8 , wherein the polyamide resin comprises a copolymer polyamide resin containing a diamine represented by the following formula (2) as a constituent:

wherein each of R 4 to R 7 which are independent of one another, is a hydrogen atom or an organic substituent; each of m and n which are independent of each other, is an integer of from 0 to 4, and when there are two or more substituents, these substituents may be different from each other.
