Method for ameliorating muscle weakness/wasting in a patient infected with human immunodeficiency virus-type 1
Pharmaceutical compositions containing oxandrolone and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier are provided for ameliorating myopathy, weight loss or muscle wasting resulting from human immunodeficiency virus type-1 infection, wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount of 7.5 milligrams or more.

A pharmaceutical composition comprising oxandrolone and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for ameliorating myopathy, weight loss or muscle wasting resulting from human immunodeficiency virus type-1 infection, wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount of 7.5 milligrams or more.
66 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 65 , wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount of 7.5 milligrams to 20 milligrams.
67 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 65 , wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount of 10 milligrams.
68 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 65 , wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount of 20 milligrams.
69 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 65 , wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount greater than 20 milligrams.
70 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 65 , wherein the composition is in solid form.
71 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 70 , wherein the solid form is a tablet.
72 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 65 , wherein the oxandrolone is administered as an adjunctive therapy.
73 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising oxandrolone and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount of 7.5 milligrams or more.
74 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 73 , wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount of 7.5 milligrams to 20 milligrams.
75 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 73 , wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount of 10 milligrams.
76 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 73 , wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount of 20 milligrams.
77 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 73 , wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount greater than 20 milligrams.
78 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 73 , wherein the composition is in liquid form or solid form.
79 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 78 , wherein the solid form is a tablet.
80 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 73 , wherein the oxandrolone is administered as an adjunctive therapy.
81 . A pharmaceutical composition in unit dose form comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and 7.5 mg to 20 mg of oxandrolone per unit dosage form.
82 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 81 , wherein the composition is in liquid form or solid form.
83 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 82 , wherein the solid form is a tablet.
84 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 81 , wherein the oxandrolone is present in the composition in an amount of 10 milligrams.
