Abstract

A nozzle arrangement is provided for an inkjet printer. The nozzle arrangement includes a substrate defining an ink supply conduit. A shelf layer is positioned on the substrate, and defines a shelf which covers the ink supply conduit and an opening in fluid communication with the ink supply conduit. A static wall extends from the shelf layer and surrounds the opening. An anchor extends from the shelf layer outside the static wall. A bend actuator extends away from the anchor and terminates in a roof structure. The roof structure defines a movable wall which extends adjacent the static wall to define a nozzle chamber and an ink ejection port through which ink provided via the opening to the nozzle chamber can be ejected. In use, the bend actuator can bend and straighten to vary the volume of the nozzle chamber and eject ink therein through the ink ejection port.

Claims (14)

1. A nozzle arrangement for an inkjet printer, the nozzle arrangement comprising:

a substrate defining an ink supply conduit;

a shelf layer positioned on the substrate and defining a shelf which covers the ink supply conduit and an opening in fluid communication with the ink supply conduit;

a static wall extending from the shelf layer and surrounding the opening;

an anchor extending from the shelf layer outside the static wall;

a roof structure defining a movable wall which extends adjacent the static wall to define a nozzle chamber and a ink ejection port through which ink provided via the opening to the nozzle chamber can be ejected; and

a bend actuator extending away from the anchor and terminating in the roof structure, the bend actuator being capable of bending and straightening reciprocally to displace the roof structure to vary the volume of the nozzle chamber and eject ink therein through the ink ejection port.

2. A nozzle arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the static wall is endless.

3. A nozzle arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the static wall defines a groove between a pair of parallel wall portions in which ink can collect.

4. A nozzle arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the movable wall surrounds the static wall.

5. A nozzle arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the opening is hexagonal in shape.

6. A nozzle arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the bend actuator comprises a heated cantilever portion and a non-heated cantilever portion.

7. A nozzle arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the anchor is substantially U-shaped.

8. A nozzle arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the bend actuator is mounted to the shelf layer.
