Abstract

A print engine assembly includes an elongate chassis. A pair of bearing moldings is operatively mounted to either end of the chassis. A printhead assembly is mounted within the chassis. The printhead assembly includes an elongate printhead having a plurality of ink printing integrated circuits (IC's) each disposed at an angle to a longitudinal axis of the printhead. Each IC overlaps adjacent IC's to enable continuous printing of ink along the printhead. A feed mechanism is mounted to the bearing moldings, and is configured to feed print media beneath the printhead during printing and then through the slot.

Claims (12)

1. A print engine assembly comprising

an elongate chassis defining a slot;

a pair of bearing moldings operatively mounted to either end of the chassis;

two pairs of rails arranged on the chassis with each bearing molding being movably mounted to a respective pair of rails;

a printhead assembly mounted within the chassis, the printhead assembly including an elongate printhead having a plurality of ink printing integrated circuits (IC's) each disposed at an angle to a longitudinal axis of the printhead, each IC overlapping adjacent IC's to enable continuous printing of ink along the printhead; and

a feed mechanism mounted to the bearing moldings, and configured to feed print media beneath the printhead during printing and then through the slot.

2. A print engine assembly as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the feed mechanism comprises a plurality of rollers mounted between the bearing moldings.

3. A print engine assembly as claimed in claim 2 , further comprising an external motor mounted to one of the bearing moldings and operatively coupled to at least one of the rollers.

4. A print engine assembly as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the chassis is generally U-shaped, facilitating mounting of the bearing moldings within the chassis.

5. A print engine assembly as claimed in claim 1 , which includes a pair of spacers operatively arranged with respect to the printhead assembly and the chassis, to adjust an effective length of the printhead assembly.

6. A print engine assembly as claimed in claim 1 , in which a capping assembly of the printhead assembly is mounted on the rails to cap and uncap the printhead.

7. A print engine assembly as claimed in claim 6 , which includes a pair of biasing springs each extending from respective bearing moldings and into respective retention formations defined by the chassis, to bias the capping assembly into a raised position with respect to the printhead.
