Abstract

A compression device for applying compression treatment to a part of a wearer's body includes bladder material defining at least one inflatable bladder and a breathable wicking layer connected to the bladder. A plurality of openings extend through the bladder material to the wicking layer. A breathable outer cover overlies the bladder. In use, the wicking layer wicks moisture from the wearer's skin and heat and the moisture is allowed to dissipate through the device through the wicking layer, the openings and the breathable outer cover. A garment includes a sheet of mesh material formed with loops for use in a hook and loop fastener.

Claims (10)

1. A compression device for wrapping around a part of the wearer's body comprising an inner layer and an opposing outer layer, the outer layer comprising a sheet of mesh material having opposite longitudinal edge margins, a first surface of the mesh material being formed with loops such that the loops are part of the mesh material for use in a hook and loop fastener at least along a first of the edge margins, and a hook fastener member associated with the compression device generally proximate to a second of the longitudinal edge margins of the sheet of mesh material and positioned for engaging the loops on the first surface when the mesh material is wrapped around the body part for securing the first longitudinal edge margin to the second longitudinal edge margin wherein the compression device is retained on the wearer's body part, the compression device further comprising a bladder sized and shaped to be wrapped around substantially an entirety of a circumference of the part of the wearer's body, and bladder openings extending through the bladder, each opening having an area of greater than about 0.50 in 2 (3.23 cm 2 ), the bladder being selectively inflatable for applying compression to the body part.

2. A compression device as set forth in claim 1 wherein substantially the entire first surface of the mesh material sheet is formed with loops.

3. A compression device as set forth in claim 2 wherein the first surface is an outer surface of the compression device as worn around the body part.

4. A compression device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the inner layer comprises a liner sheet, the hook fastener members being secured to the liner sheet.

5. A compression device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the inner layer comprises a liner sheet of mesh material attached to the bladder on a side thereof opposite the mesh material sheet when the compression device is worn on the body part, at least portions of the liner sheet being in registration with the mesh material sheet to provide ventilation from the skin through the compression device.

6. A compression device for wrapping around a part of the wearer's body comprising an inner layer and an opposing outer layer, the outer layer comprising a sheet of mesh material having opposite longitudinal edge margins, a first surface of the mesh material being formed with loops such that the loops are part of the mesh material for use in a hook and loop fastener at least along a first of the edge margins, and a hook fastener member associated with the compression device generally proximate to a second of the longitudinal edge margins of the sheet of mesh material and positioned for engaging the loops on the first surface when the mesh material is wrapped around the body part for securing the first longitudinal edge margin to the second longitudinal edge margin wherein the compression device is retained on the wearer's body part, the compression device further comprising a bladder sized and shaped to be wrapped around substantially an entirety of a circumference of the part of the wearer's body, and bladder openings extending through the bladder, each opening comprising at least about 0.5% of the total surface area of the bladder, the bladder being selectively inflatable for applying compression to the body part.

7. A compression device as set forth in claim 6 wherein substantially the entire first surface of the mesh material sheet is formed with loops.

8. A compression device as set forth in claim 7 wherein the first surface is an outer surface of the compression device as worn around the body part.

9. A compression device as set forth in claim 6 wherein the inner layer comprises a liner sheet, the hook fastener members being secured to the liner sheet.

10. A compression device as set forth in claim 6 wherein the inner layer comprises a liner sheet of mesh material attached to the bladder on a side thereof opposite the mesh material sheet when the compression device is worn on the body part, at least portions of the liner sheet being in registration with the mesh material sheet to provide ventilation from the skin through the compression device.
