Abstract

A compression sleeve includes a wicking layer secured to bladder material defining an inflatable bladder along a seamline. Fibers of the wicking layer extend through the seamline to allow fluid wicked by the wicking layer from the wearer's skin to evaporate to the atmosphere.

Claims (8)

1. A device for applying compression treatment to a part of a wearer's body, the device comprising:

a wicking layer having a first face facing skin on the wearer's body part when the device is mounted on the body part for wicking moisture from the skin and a second face facing away from the skin of the wearer's body part, the wicking layer including polymeric wicking fibers;

a bladder for selectively applying compression to the body part, the bladder comprising two sheets of air impermeable thermoplastic bladder material sealed together, the sheets of bladder material having a thickness, the sheets of bladder material being bonded to the second face of the wicking layer along a seamline formed by an RF weld that extends from the wicking layer through the thickness of the sheets of bladder material and runs along a periphery of the sheets of bladder material, wherein the polymeric wicking fibers of the wicking layer extend through the seamline from one side of the seamline to an opposite side of the seamline to allow fluid wicked by the wicking layer from the wearer's skin to evaporate to the atmosphere, the wicking layer and sheets of bladder material being free of needle punched fibers at the seamline that extend through the thicknesses of the sheets of bladder material.

2. A device as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a plurality of openings extending through the bladder in registration with the wicking layer.

3. A device as set forth in claim 2 further comprising at least one peripheral opening extending through the bladder in registration with the wicking layer and disposed outside a periphery of the bladder.

4. A device as set forth in claim 3 further comprising an outer cover overlying the bladder and secured to the bladder.

5. A device as set forth in claim 4 wherein the outer cover is constructed in part of a wicking material.

6. A device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the bladder material is PVC.
