Abstract

A bed having a frame, a deck, and a communication network and at least one module. The at least one module includes a charting module.

Claims (17)

1. A bed comprising:

a frame;

a deck coupled to the frame to support a body;

a communication network;

at least one module coupled to the communication network, including a charting module having an interface configured to be coupled to an input device comprising a bar code scanner for inputting information identifying a doctor's treatment prescription relating to at least one of rotational therapy and percussion therapy to the charting module, the charting module storing the information and transmitting the information to the communication network, and a display, coupled to the charting module, to display the information.

2. The bed of claim 1 , wherein the input device comprises a keyboard.

3. The bed of claim 1 , wherein the charting module includes a memory, to receive the information, wherein the information includes bar code scanner information.

4. The bed of claim 1 , wherein the doctor's prescription comprises a prescription medicine.

5. The bed of claim 1 , wherein the at least one module comprises a plurality of modules.

6. The bed of claim 5 , wherein each of the plurality of modules includes a dedicated function.

7. The bed of claim 6 , wherein one of the plurality of modules comprises a communication module to enable transmission of information to a remote location and for receiving information from the remote location to control operation of the bed.

8. An apparatus for performing a function on a bed providing a plurality of functions including at least one of rotational therapy and percussion therapy, the bed having a frame, a deck coupled to the frame to support a mattress, and a communication network, the apparatus comprising:

a charting module; coupled to the communication network, the charting module having an interface configured to be coupled to an input device for inputting surface therapy information relating to at least one of rotational therapy and percussion therapy to the charting module, the charting module storing the surface therapy information and transmitting the surface therapy information to the communication network, the input device comprising a bar code scanner to input information identifying a doctor's treatment prescription to the charting module, and a display, coupled to the charting module, to display the surface therapy information.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the doctor's prescription comprises a prescription medicine.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of functions provided by the bed includes rotational therapy.

11. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of functions provided by the bed includes percussion.

12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the treatment prescription includes a period of time for providing percussion.
