Abstract

Chelator containing compounds are utilized in the delivery of molecules and polymers to animal cells. At least one chelator such as crown ether is attached to a polymer and then associated with another polymer. An ion is then added to the mixture thereby forming condensed polymer. In condensed form and in complex with the chelator, polymer can be delivered to a cell.

Claims (12)

. A chelating compound for delivery of a polymer, comprising: a complex consisting of a polyanion and a primary amine-containing polycationic molecule associated with a chelator wherein the chelator forms a non-covalent coordinate bond with the primary amine on the primary amine-containing polycationic molecule.

. The chelating compound of claim 1 wherein the chelator consists of a crown ether.

. The chelating compound of claim 1 wherein the primary amine-containing polycationic molecule is a polyamine.

. The chelating compound of claim 1 wherein the chelator consists of a polychelator.

. The chelating compound of claim 4 wherein the polychelator consists of a polyanion.

. The chelating compound of claim 5 wherein the polyanion recharges the complex to give the complex a negative surface charge.

. The chelating compound of claim 4 wherein the polychelator consists of a polycation.

. The chelating compound of claim 5 wherein the chelator is covalently linked to a compound selected from the list consisting of: a cell targeting signal, a releasing signal, and a hydrophobic group.

. The chelating compound of claim 4 wherein the primary amine-containing polycationic molecule is selected from the list consisting of: a cell receptor signal, a releasing signal, a hydrophobic group and a steric stabilizer.

. The chelating compound of claim 4 wherein the polyanion comprises a polynucleotide.

. The chelating compound of claim 10 wherein the polynucleotide is expressible.

. The chelating compound of claim 1 wherein the cell consists of an in vivo mammalian cell.
