Abstract

Methods and systems for connecting people to services delivered via a virtual reality environment. One embodiment includes: a virtual reality server to host a three dimensional virtual reality world; and a connection provider to interface between the virtual reality server and a customer and to interface between the virtual reality server and an advisor, the connection provider to present the advisor and to cause the virtual reality server to teleporting an avatar, representing the customer or the advisor in the virtual reality world, to a location in the virtual reality world for a meeting between the customer and the advisor, the connection provider to monitor a duration of the meeting in the virtual reality world and to charge the customer on behalf of the advisor for services delivered by the advisor during the meeting in the virtual reality world.

Claims (50)

1 . A method, comprising:

via a presentation of the advisor, teleporting an avatar to a location in a virtual reality world for a meeting between a customer and an advisor, the avatar to represent the customer or the advisor in the virtual reality world;

monitoring a duration of the meeting in the virtual reality world; and

charging the customer on behalf of the advisor for services delivered by the advisor during the meeting in the virtual reality world.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the virtual reality world is three dimensional; the virtual reality world is presented to the customer and the advisor based on respective view points of the customer and the advisor in the virtual reality world; and the view points of the customer and the advisor are based upon adjustable locations of avatars that represent the customer and the advisor in the virtual reality world.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

assigning the avatar to the customer for the meeting; and

de-assigning the avatar from the customer after the meeting;

wherein the avatar is teleported to a location of an avatar assigned to the advertiser for the meeting.

4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

providing at least part of control of the avatar to the advisor for a period of time during the meeting.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

assigning the avatar to the advisor;

determining availability of the advisor for the meeting based at least in part on a location of the avatar in the virtual reality world; and

presenting a user interface element to the customer if the advisor is available for the meeting;

wherein the teleporting of the avatar is responsive to the customer selecting the user interface element.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the teleporting the avatar comprises teleporting the avatar to vicinity of a location of an avatar representing the customer, a location specified by the advisor after the presentation, or a location determined prior to the presentation.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing the advisor with a code to be embedded in a document, the document to be distributed by the advisor, the code to generate a display of an icon when the document is displayed;

wherein the teleporting of the avatar is in response to a selection of the icon by the customer.

8 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

in response to a selection of the icon, establishing a telephonic connection between the customer and the advisor.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the establishing of the telephone connection comprises:

a connection provider establishing a first Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) connection to connect to the customer;

the connection provider establishing a second Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) connection to connect to the advisor; and

bridging the first and second VoIP connections to connect the customer and the advisor.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the bridging of the first and second VoIP connections comprises establishing a media connection to connect the customer and the advisor; and

wherein the media connection does not go through the connection provider.

11 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the code comprises a link to a server to obtain an image of the icon based on an availability of the advisor.

12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

updating the image of the icon periodically based on a current availability of the advisor.

13 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the document comprises a web page of the advisor, a blog of the advisor, a home page of the advisor, an Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) document distributed by the advisor, or an electronic mail from the advisor.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the code is in a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML);

and the code includes a reference to a listing of the advisor.

15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the code comprises an applet running in a browser that displays the document.

16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the charging of the customer comprises charging the customer a flat fee, a fee determined prior to a determination of the duration of the meeting, or a fee determined based on the duration of the meeting; and the method further comprises:

charging the advisor a percentage of an amount the customer is charged.

17 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing a document to present a plurality of listings of advisors in response to a search request from the customer, the listings including images of the advisors, brief description of services provided by the advisors, rates of the advisors for the services, ratings of the advisors based on feedback from prior customers of the advisors, and indicators of availability of the customers;

wherein the teleporting of the avatar is responsive to a selection from the customer corresponding a user interface element which indicates that the advisor is available for a meeting in the virtual reality world at a time the document is provided.

18 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing an indication via a virtual object in the virtual reality to indicate that the advisor is currently available for a meeting in the virtual reality world at a time the indication is provided;

wherein the teleporting is responsive to a selection of the virtual object by the customer in the virtual reality world in response to the indication.

19 . A machine readable media embodying instructions, the instructions causing a machine to perform a method, the method comprising:

teleporting an avatar to a location in a virtual reality world for a meeting between a customer and an advisor, the avatar representing the customer or the advisor in the virtual reality world;

monitoring a duration of the meeting in the virtual reality world; and

charging the customer on behalf of the advisor for services delivered by the advisor via the meeting.

20 . A system, comprising:

a virtual reality server to host a virtual reality world; and

a connection provider to interface between the virtual reality server and a customer and to interface between the virtual reality server and an advisor, the connection provider to present the advisor and to cause the virtual reality server to teleporting an avatar to a location in the virtual reality world for a meeting between the customer and the advisor, the avatar to represent the customer or the advisor in the virtual reality world, the connection provider to monitor a duration of the meeting in the virtual reality world and to charge the customer on behalf of the advisor for services delivered by the advisor during the meeting in the virtual reality world.
