Abstract

A topical insecticide is provided which can be safe to use and avoids many common deleterious side effects of conventional topical insecticides. In one preferred embodiment of the invention, the active ingredient of the insecticide formulation is an amine derivative, having a nitro-methylene group, a nitroamino group or a cyanoamino group, which can be formulated to have low toxicity and excellent insecticidal activity. One particularly suitable insecticide is 1-{(tetrahydro-3-furanyl)methyl}-2-nitro-3-methylguanidine (dinotefuran), an aldulticide that will kill adult fleas dissolved in ethyl lactate.

Claims (24)

. An insecticide formulated by dissolving an insecticidably effective amount of dinotefuran in an effective amount of a solvent component comprising N-octyl pyrrolidone.

. The insecticide of claim 1 , wherein said dinotefuran is dissolved in the formulation to a concentration of about 10 to 45%.

. The insecticide of claim 1 , wherein said insecticide comprises about 1 to 85% N-octyl pyrrolidone.

. The insecticide of claim 1 , further comprising about 23 to 74% ethyl lactate.

. The insecticide of claim 1 , further comprising about 22 to 25% water.

. The insecticide of claim 1 , further comprising about 22 to 25% G-Butyrolactone.

. The insecticide of claim 1 , further comprising about 15 to 56% polycarbonate.

. The insecticide of claim 1 , further comprising about 45 to 49% ethyl lactate.

. The insecticide of claim 8 , wherein said dinotefuran is dissolved in the formulation to a concentration of about 15%.

. The insecticide of claim 9 , wherein said insecticide comprises about 1 to 6% N-octyl pyrrolidone.

. The insecticide of claim 10 , wherein said insecticide comprises about 22 to 25% water.

. The insecticide of claim 1 , further comprising about 49 to 74% N-methyl pyrrolidone.

. The insecticide of claim 12 , wherein said insecticide comprises about 20 to 45% dinotefuran.

. The insecticide of claim 13 , wherein said insecticide comprises about 6% N-octyl pyrrolidone.

. The insecticide of claim 1 , further comprising about 0 to 40% G-Butrolactone.

. The insecticide of claim 15 , wherein said insecticide comprises about 15 to 25% dinotefuran.

. The insecticide of claim 16 , wherein said insecticide comprises about 40 to 85% N-octyl pyrrolidone.

. The insecticide of claim 1 , further comprising about 42 to 52% ethyl lactate.

. The insecticide of claim 18 , wherein said insecticide comprises about 10 to 20% dinotefuran.

. The insecticide of claim 19 , wherein said insecticide comprises about 0.01 to 5% N-octyl pyrrolidone.

. The insecticide of claim 1 , further comprising about 23 to 45% N-methyl pyrrolidone.

. The insecticide of claim 21 , wherein said insecticide comprises about 14 to 22% dinotefuran.

. The insecticide of claim 22 , wherein said insecticide comprises about 0.01 to 6% N-octyl pyrrolidone.

. The insecticide of claim 23 , further comprising about 15 to 56% polycarbonate.
