Abstract

A heating apparatus comprising a support base and a microplate having a first surface and an opposing second surface. The microplate is positioned adjacent the support base and comprises a plurality of wells formed in the first surface thereof. Each of the plurality of wells is sized to receive an assay therein. A sapphire crystalline transparent window is positioned adjacent the microplate opposing the support base. A heating device heats the transparent window in response to a control system.

9 . The heating apparatus according to claim 8 wherein said control system includes a pair of bus bars disposed upon opposing ends of said transparent window in electrical contact with said indium tin oxide layer.

10 . The heating apparatus according to claim 8 wherein said indium tin oxide layer has a generally uniform optical transmission capability.

11 . The heating apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said heating device is a film.

12 . The heating apparatus according to claim 11 wherein said film is laminated with said transparent window.

13 . The heating apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said heating device is an infrared heater emitting infrared energy at said transparent window to heat said transparent window.

14 . The heating apparatus according to claim 13 , further comprising a diffuser disposed between said infrared heater and said transparent window.

15 . The heating apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said heating device is an induction heater heating said transparent window.

16 . The heating apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said heating device comprises a heating plate having a plurality of apertures formed therethrough to permit transmission of excitation energy and flourescence.

17 . The heating apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said heating device comprises a resistive circuit formed on said transparent window, said resistive circuit outputting heat to said transparent window in response to electrical current flowing therethrough.

18 . The heating apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said transparent window is in contact with said microplate.

19 . The heating apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said plurality of wells is greater than 96 wells.

20 . The heating apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said plurality of wells is greater than or equal to 384 wells.

21 . The heating apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said plurality of wells is greater than or equal to 1536 wells.

22 . A heating apparatus comprising:

a support base;

a microplate having a first surface and an opposing second surface, said microplate being positioned adjacent said support base;

a plurality of wells formed in said first surface of said microplate;

a sealing cover being optically transparent and affixed to said microplate to isolate each assay contained in the plurality of wells;

a first transparent window being positioned adjacent said sealing cover, said first transparent window having at least a heat conductive crystalline material portion;

a heating device heating said transparent window; and

a control system operably controlling said heating device.

23 . The heating apparatus of claim 22 wherein said heat conductive crystalline material is a sapphire crystalline material.

24 . The heating apparatus of claim 22 wherein said heat conductive crystalline material is a first diamond thin film.

25 . The heating apparatus of claim 24 wherein said first diamond thin film comprises a resistive path formed therein operably coupled to said heating device for heating said first transparent window.

26 . The heating apparatus of claim 25 , further comprising a second diamond thin film disposed over said first diamond thin film.

27 . The heating apparatus of claim 22 wherein said heat conductive crystalline material is a film.

28 . The heating apparatus of claim 22 further comprising a chamber formed between said sealing cover and said first transparent window.

29 . The heating apparatus of claim 28 wherein said chamber is filled with a fluid or gas heated by said heating device.

30 . The heating apparatus of claim 29 wherein said fluid or gas is pressurized.

31 . The heating apparatus of claim 22 further comprising a second transparent window being positioned adjacent said first transparent window.

32 . The heating apparatus of claim 31 wherein said first and said second transparent windows are separated to form a chamber therebetween.

33 . The heating apparatus of claim 32 wherein said chamber is filled with a fluid or gas heated by said heating device.

34 . The heating apparatus of claim 33 wherein said fluid or gas is pressurized.
