Abstract

A location-based game system is provided. Such a system may take the form of any device (e.g., a wireless telephone) that includes a locating device (e.g., a GPS system). One such location-based game may operate such that the actual, physical location of a user on a physical playfield corresponds to the location of a virtual character on a virtual playfield. Such location based games are referred to herein as actuality games. In one multiplayer actuality embodiment, two game devices may communicate location, and other, information to a remote database such that the two user's may interact on different physical playfields, but play on the same virtual playfield. A number of wireless communications protocols, self-configuration, and auto-download software applications are also provided to optimize integration with, for example, a wireless telephone.

28 . The system of claim 25 , wherein information from said locating device is provided to a remote server.

29 . The system of claim 25 , wherein said virtual indicia is associated with a multiple-player video game, said head-mounted system is associated with a first player of said multiple-player video game, and information for operating said multiple-player video game is received from a remote device associated with a second player of said multiple-player video game.

30 . The system of claim 25 , wherein said locating device comprises a positioning receiver.

31 . The system of claim 25 , further comprising a second locating device.

32 . The system of claim 25 , further comprising:

a second locating device; and

a third locating device.

33 . A portable gaming system comprising:

a display;

a locating device; and

a processor for playing a location-based video game based, at least in part, on signals received from said locating device, wherein said location-based video game is provided on a removable cartridge.

34 . The system of claim 33 , further comprising a second locating device.

35 . The system of claim 33 , wherein said locating device comprises a positioning receiver.

36 . The system of claim 33 , further comprising a directional device.

37 . The system of claim 33 , wherein information associated with said video game is provided to a remote storage device.

38 . The system of claim 33 , wherein said video game is a multiple-player video game and information associated with a second player of said video game is received by said system and utilized by said video game.
