Abstract

Disclosed is an apparatus having a detector for an iterative LDPC-coded MIMO-OFDM system, where the detector is configured to use a structured irregular LDPC code in conjunction with a belief propagation algorithm. Also disclosed is an apparatus having a detector for a structured irregular LDPC-coded MIMO-OFDM system, where the detector is configured to use an iterative Recursive Least Squares-based data detection and channel estimation technique. Corresponding methods and computer program products are also disclosed.

Claims (22)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, at a detector for an iterative low-density parity-check coded multiple-input, multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplex system, a multiple-input, multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplex signal;

generating a current a posteriori probability for the received signal based at least in part on a soft decisions based on a prior a posteriori probability and a soft channel estimate; and

decoding the current a posteriori probability using a belief propagation algorithm in order to generate soft bit information.

2. The method of claim 1 , where the belief propagation algorithm is a layered belief propagation algorithm.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising estimating frequency responses using a soft recursive least squares channel estimator.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising estimating frequency responses using a semi-blind channel estimator.

5. An apparatus, comprising at least one processor; and at least one memory including computer program code, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following:

to receive, at a detector for an iterative low-density parity-check coded multiple-input, multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplex system, a multiple-input, multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplex signal;

to generate a current a posteriori probability for the received signal based at least in part on a soft decisions based on a prior a posteriori probability and a soft channel estimate; and

to decode the current a posteriori probability using a belief propagation algorithm in order to generate soft bit information.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 , where the belief propagation algorithm is comprised of a layered belief propagation algorithm.

7. The apparatus of claim 5 , embodied at least in part in an integrated circuit.

8. The apparatus of claim 5 , where the at least one memory and the computer program code are further configured to cause the apparatus to estimate frequency responses using a soft recursive least squares channel estimator.

9. The apparatus of claim 5 , where the at least one memory and the computer program code are further configured to cause the apparatus to estimate frequency responses using a semi-blind channel estimator.

10. A non-transitory computer readable medium tangibly encoded with a computer program executable by a data processor to perform actions comprising:

receiving, at a detector for an iterative low-density parity-check coded multiple-input, multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplex system, a multiple-input, multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplex signal;

generating a current a posteriori probability for the received signal based at least in part on a soft decisions based on a prior a posteriori probability and a soft channel estimate; and

decoding the current a posteriori probability using a belief propagation algorithm in order to generate soft bit information.

11. The computer program product of claim 10 , where the belief propagation algorithm is a layered belief propagation algorithm.

12. The computer program product of claim 10 , further comprising estimating frequency responses using a soft recursive least squares channel estimator.

13. The computer program product of claim 10 , further comprising estimating frequency responses using a semi-blind channel estimator.
