Abstract

A method and apparatus are provided for providing calling party information in a request to establish a call session. The method comprises receiving a call request from an entity to establish an interactive call session. The method comprises receiving information associated with the entity. The method further comprises providing the information in the call request.

Claims (17)

1. An apparatus for use in a data network, comprising:

an interface to receive an invitation from a network device of a calling party over the data network to establish a call session, the invitation comprising a header portion and a body portion of the invitation; and

a controller communicatively coupled to the interface, the controller to provide information regarding past purchases of the calling party in the body portion of the invitation.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the controller is adapted to look up the information regarding the past purchases of the calling party from a storage unit based on data stored in the header portion of the invitation.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the controller is adapted to look up the information regarding the past purchases of the calling party from a database stored in the storage unit.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the controller is adapted to append the information regarding the past purchases of the calling party in the body portion of the invitation using at least one of a Session Initiation Protocol control gateway interface and Session Initiation Protocol servlet.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the controller is adapted to append the information regarding the past purchases of the calling party in the body portion of the invitation.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the controller is adapted to update a content-length field in the header portion of the invitation based on at least the appended information regarding the past purchases of the calling party.

7. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the controller is adapted to update a content-type field in the header portion of the invitation based on at least the appended information regarding the past purchases of the calling party.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the controller is adapted to update the content-type field to indicate multipart/mixed type.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the controller is adapted to display the information regarding the past purchases of the calling party.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the invitation comprises a Session Initiation Protocol message, and wherein the information regarding the past purchases of the calling party is provided in the Session Initiation Protocol message.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the invitation comprises an Invite request, and wherein the information regarding the past purchases of the calling party is provided in the Invite request.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the controller is adapted to forward the invitation comprising the information regarding the past purchases of the calling party to a presentation device.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the controller is adapted to provide the information regarding the past purchases of the calling party as information of Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions type.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the information of the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions type is selected from a group consisting of Java Enhanced Session Initiation Protocol, Hyper Text Markup Language, and Extensible Markup Language.

15. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the information regarding the past purchases of the calling party is information regarding a history of past purchases of the calling party.
