Abstract

Method for creating a three dimensional imaging system is disclosed. There is a first source of laser light and a second source of laser light having a wavelength different from the wavelength of the laser light of the first source. The laser light from the first and second sources are combined, and the combined laser light is transmitted to a scanner. The scanner further transmits the combined light to a surface to be imaged.

Claims (41)

1. A method of creating a three dimensional image of a target comprising:

emitting a first beam of laser light having a first wavelength from a first laser; and

emitting a second beam of laser light having a wavelength from a second laser that is different from the wavelength of said first beam of laser light;

combining said first and second beams of laser light into a beam of light;

transmitting the combined beams of laser light to a scanner;

transmitting said combined beams of laser light from said scanner to said target; and

wherein said target is a patient and wherein light from said first laser is reflected off the patient and absorbed by the blood in the veins in the patient's body; and

wherein said first beam of laser light is emitted by a first laser, said first laser having a means for varying the laser intensity, said means for varying the first laser intensity driving a first laser driver for said first beam of laser light at a power output dependent on a frame of a frame counter; and wherein the reflected light is sensed and converted to an analog signal, said signal passing through a converter which outputs a digital representation to a first image memory for each frame and whereupon completion of each frame, said image memory contains an image; and

displaying said image.

2. The method according to claim 1 wherein said scanner has a reflective surface.

3. The method according to claim 2 further comprising oscillating the reflective surface in both the x and y axis.

4. The method according to claim 1 wherein said scanner is a MEMs scanner.

5. The method according to claim 4 further comprising transmitting the combined laser light to a mirror before being received by the MEMs scanner.

6. The method according to claim 4 wherein said method further includes the step of driving said MEMs scanner in a raster pattern.

7. The method according to claim 6 further comprising sensing the position of the scanner in the raster pattern.

8. The method according to claim 7 further comprising communicating information about the location of the scanner to an image memory array.

The method according to claim 6 wherein a first frame after achieving a stable raster pattern is identified by an initial designation, and wherein each subsequent frame is provided a subsequent designation by a frame counter up to a preselected maximum and wherein at said maximum said frame counter is reset to said initial designation.

10. The method according to claim 1 wherein the laser driver increases the power output of said first laser as said frame counter increases.

11. The method according to claim 10 wherein during the increase of said frame counter to a first maximum a laser driver for said second beam of laser light is turned off.

12. The method according to claim 11 wherein the reflected light is sensed and converted to a an analog signal by a photo detector.

13. The method according to claim 12 wherein the analog signal from said photo detector passes through a an analog to digital converter.

14. The method according to claim 12 wherein said image memory contains an image which has been obtained with increased laser intensity.

15. The method according to claim 14 wherein data in said first image memory is forwarded to an image formatter which forms an image which is transferred to a second image memory.

The method according to claim 15 , wherein after said frame counter is reset to said initial designation, the data in the second image memory is read out as a function of an instantaneous position information and provided to an analog to digital converter which outputs a signal to said second laser driver which drives a second laser such that the image stored in said second image memory is projected by said second laser onto said patient.

17. The method according to claim 16 wherein said image stored in said second image memory is projected by said second laser onto a patient is combined with a three dimensional display.

18. The method according to claim 16 wherein said image stored in said second image memory is projected on the patient by a 630 nm laser.

19. The method according to claim 15 wherein an analog signal passes from the second image memory through a converter which outputs a digital representation which is displayed on a three dimensional display.

20. The method according to claim 19 wherein said three dimensional display is on a miniature vein enhancer.

21. The method according to claim 15 wherein the analog signal passes through a converter which outputs a digital representation which is displayed in a two dimensional display.

22. The method according to claim 1 wherein the wavelength of the laser light is increased in sequential frames.

23. The method according to claim 1 wherein said first laser beam has a wavelength of 700 nm to 1000 nm.

24. The method according to claim 1 wherein the first laser beam has a wavelength to 740 nm.

25. A method of creating a three dimensional image of a target comprising:

emitting a first beam of laser light having a first wavelength from a first laser; and

emitting a second beam of laser light having a wavelength from a second laser that is different from the wavelength of said first beam of laser light;

combining said first and second beams of laser light into a beam of light;

transmitting the combined beams of laser light to a scanner;

transmitting said combined beams of laser light from said scanner to said target; and

wherein said target is a patient and wherein light from said first laser is reflected off a patient and absorbed by the blood in the veins in a patient's body; and

wherein said first beam of laser light is emitted by a first laser, driving a first laser driver for said first beam of laser light at a power output dependent on a frame of a frame counter; and wherein the reflected light is sensed and converted to an analog signal, said signal passing through a converter which outputs a digital representation to a first image memory for each frame and whereupon completion of each frame, said image memory contains an image; and

displaying said image.
