Abstract

A liquid crystal display device capable of obtaining high luminance and good display characteristics, a substrate for such a liquid crystal display device, and a manufacturing method of such a substrate, are provided. A color filter substrate that holds, together with an array substrate, a liquid crystal having negative dielectric anisotropy. Color filters are formed on a glass substrate and a common electrode is formed on the color filters. Protrusions and auxiliary protrusions for regulating the alignment of the liquid crystal are formed on the common electrode so as to have different sectional shapes.

Claims (25)

1. A manufacturing method of a color filter substrate for a liquid crystal display device, comprising the steps of:

forming a color filter on an insulating transparent substrate;

forming a transparent conductive film on the color filter; and

forming a plurality of first resin patterns at a first portion on the transparent conductive film and a plurality of second resin patterns at a second portion which is lower than the first portion on the transparent conductive film simultaneously,

wherein a value of d 1 -d 2 is approximately 1 μm, where d 1 is a distance between the transparent conductive film and the top surfaces of the first resin patterns and d 2 is a distance between the transparent conductive film and the top surfaces of the second resin patterns.

2. The manufacturing method of the color filter substrate for the liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein a total area of the first resin patterns and the second resin patterns as viewed perpendicular to a surface of the substrate is 10% or more of an area of a display area.

3. The manufacturing method of the color filter substrate for the liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , further comprising the step of forming a BM prior to the step of forming the color filter.

4. The manufacturing method of the color filter substrate for the liquid crystal display device according to claim 3 , wherein the BM is made of Cr.

5. The manufacturing method of the color filter substrate for the liquid crystal display device according to claim 3 , wherein the color filters of different colors are laminated on the BM.

6. The manufacturing method of the color filter substrate for the liquid crystal display device according to claim 5 ,

wherein the first portion is a portion above where the color filters of different colors are laminated, and

the second portion is a portion above the color filter except the first portion.

7. The manufacturing method of the color filter substrate for the liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the first resin patterns are resin spacers.

8. The manufacturing method of the color filter substrate for the liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the second resin patterns are dummy patterns.

9. A manufacturing method of a liquid crystal display device, comprising the step of:

forming a color filter substrate by employing the manufacturing method of the color filter substrate according to claim 1 .

10. The manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display device according to claim 9 , wherein a total area of the first resin patterns and the second resin patterns as viewed perpendicular to a surface of the substrate is 10% or more of an area of a display area.

11. The manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display device according to claim 9 , further comprising the step of forming a BM prior to the step of forming the color filter.

12. The manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display device according to claim 11 , wherein the BM is made of Cr.

13. The manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display device according to claim 11 , wherein the color filters of different colors are laminated on the BM.

14. The manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display device according to claim 13 ,

wherein the first portion is a portion above where the color filters of different colors are laminated, and

the second portion is a portion above the color filter except the first portion.

15. The manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display device according to claim 9 , wherein the first resin patterns are resin spacers.

16. The manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display device according to claim 9 , wherein the second resin patterns are dummy patterns.
