Abstract

An inkjet printer includes a body housing a print engine. The print engine includes a transport mechanism configured to transport print media and a printhead assembly configured to print upon the print media. The transport mechanism includes a motor which can be driven in one direction when picking an endmost sheet of print media from a stack of print media and driven in another direction when transporting the picked print media during printing. A retractable cover is pivotally mounted relative to the body and can be pivoted to form a sheet feeder in which the stack can be located. A capping mechanism is configured to cap the printhead assembly.

Claims (12)

1. An inkjet printer comprising:

a body housing a print engine, the print engine having a transport mechanism configured to transport print media and a printhead assembly configured to print upon the print media, the transport mechanism having a motor which can be driven in one direction when picking an endmost sheet of print media from a stack of print media and driven in another direction when transporting the picked print media during printing;

a retractable cover pivotally mounted relative to the body and able to be pivoted to form a sheet feeder in which the stack can be located; and

a capping mechanism configured to cap the printhead assembly.

2. An inkjet printer as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the capping mechanism includes:

a drive motor assembly;

a lever pivotally mounted relative to the body and having one end engaging the drive motor assembly; and

a capping molding assembly terminating another end of the lever and capping the printhead assembly wherein, in use, the motor assembly can pivot the lever and uncap the printhead assembly.

3. An inkjet printer as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the capping molding assembly comprises an elastomeric seal configured to form an airtight seal with the printhead assembly.

4. An inkjet printer as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the capping molding assembly further comprises a sponge surrounded by the elastomeric seal.

5. An inkjet printer as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the capping mechanism further comprises biasing means configured to bias the capping molding assembly into capping engagement with the printhead assembly.

6. An inkjet printer as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the drive motor assembly forms part of the print engine.
