Abstract

An eyeglass lens and manufacturing method using epoxy aberrator includes two lenses with a variable index material, such as epoxy, sandwiched in between. The epoxy is then cured to different indexes of refraction that provide precise corrections for the patient's wavefront aberrations. The present invention further provides a method to produce an eyeglass that corrects higher order aberrations, such as those that occur when retinal tissue is damaged due to glaucoma or macular degeneration. The manufacturing method allows for many different applications including, but not limited to, supervision and transition lenses.

Claims (10)

1. A lens comprising:

a first layer comprising a first lens or lens blank of substantially uniform thickness;

a second layer of substantially uniform thickness comprising a material having an index of refraction that can be changed by exposure to radiation, wherein the second layer is configured to correct a first aberration of a patient's eye; and

a third layer, wherein the first layer and the third layer are configured to correct a second aberration of the patient's eye.

2. The lens of claim 1 wherein the third layer comprises a second lens or lens blank, the second layer being sandwiched between the first layer and the third layer.

3. The lens of claim 1 or 2 in which the material is epoxy.

4. The lens of claim 3 in which the material is an ultraviolet curing epoxy.

5. The lens of claim 2 , further comprising a stopper sandwiched between the first layer and the third layer.

6. The lens of claim 1 , wherein the first aberration is a higher order aberration.

7. The lens of claim 1 , wherein the second layer comprises a super-vision zone, a normal vision zone, and a transition zone, wherein the super-vision zone is configured to correct at least one higher order aberration of the patient's eye, the normal vision zone does not correct higher order aberrations of the patient's eye, and wherein the transition zone is configured to provide a smooth transition between the normal vision zone and the super-vision zone.
