Abstract

A device for treating liquid medium has an ultrasound emitter located relative to a compartment of a container holding a liquid medium and a microbubble emitter located relative to the compartment. The ultrasound emitter emits high-frequency ultrasound between about 200 KHz and 10 MHz. The microbubble emitter emits bubbles with an average diameter of less than 1 mm.

Claims (27)

1. A method of treating a liquid medium to neutralize, remove and/or prevent the growth of undifferentiated cells and/or of microorganisms present in the liquid medium, wherein the liquid medium contains salts, the method comprising injecting gas comprising microbubbles and high frequency ultrasound into the liquid medium, said high frequency ultrasound being between about 200 kHz and 10 Mhz, wherein exposure to the gas and high frequency ultrasound inhibits a recovery threshold of the undifferentiated cells and/or microorganisms, and electromagnetically treating the medium so as to modify at least one of the nucleation, formation and growth of salt crystals in the medium.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein exposure to the gas and high frequency ultrasound enhances sonoluminesence.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said microorganisms comprise any unicellular or multicellular entity whether pathogenic or non-pathogenic.

4. The method according to claim 3 , wherein the microorganisms comprise one or more types of microorganisms selected from the group consisting of bacteria, viruses, and algae.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the undifferentiated cells are at least one of cancer cells, bone marrow cells, and totipotent cells.

6. The method according to claim 1 , comprising the step of adding reagents to the liquid medium to bring about one of a chemical reaction, precipitation reaction and crystallization reaction.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the liquid medium is supersaturated with salts.

8. The method according to claim 7 , comprising obtaining a salt concentration which is greater than the natural solubility of the salt in the liquid medium of at least five times as high as the natural solubility of the salt in the liquid medium.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the gas comprises air.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein exposure to gas and high-frequency ultrasound promotes the formation of radicals in the liquid medium.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein exposure to gas and high-frequency ultrasound promotes the formation of molecules toxic to the undifferentiated cells and/or microorganisms in the medium.

12. The method of claim 1 , comprising exposing said medium to electromagnetic radiation.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein said electromagnetic radiation comprises one or more of microwave, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, or laser radiation.

14. The method of claim 1 , comprising reducing or maintaining microorganisms liable to multiply in the liquid medium below a selected concentration level.

15. The method of claim 1 , comprising obtaining said liquid medium by taking physiological fluid from a human or animal body, and further comprising re-injecting said liquid medium into said human or animal body after said treating.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein said liquid medium comprises undifferentiated cells, hyperproliferative cells, and/or microorganisms.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein said liquid medium comprises one or more of blood, serum, and cephalorachidian fluid.

18. A device for treating a liquid medium, said device comprising:

a compartment for holding said liquid medium;

an ultrasound emitter configured and located with respect to the compartment to expose the liquid medium to high frequency ultrasound, said high frequency ultrasound being between about 200 kHz and 10 Mhz;

a gas emitter configured and located with respect to said compartment and ultrasound emitter to emit gas comprising microbubbles into said compartment and into an ultrasound field produced by the ultrasound emitter;

wherein said compartment, said ultrasound emitter, and said gas emitter are configured to inhibit a recovery threshold of undifferentiated cells and/or microorganisms present in a liquid medium placed in said compartment.

19. The device of claim 18 , wherein said ultrasound emitter is oriented obliquely with respect to an axis of said compartment such that ultrasound emitted into said compartment does not generate a standing wave phenomena in a liquid medium present in said compartment.

20. The device of claim 18 , wherein said ultrasound emitter is located at a base of said compartment.

21. The device of claim 18 , further comprising an electromagnetic radiation emitter configured and located with respect to said compartment, ultrasound emitter, and gas emitter to emit electromagnetic radiation into said compartment and into an ultrasound held produced by the ultrasound emitter.

22. The device of claim 21 , wherein said electromagnetic radiation emitter is configured to emit one or more of microwave, infrared, visible, ultraviolet or laser radiation.

23. The device of claim 21 , wherein said gas emitter emits air.
