Abstract

A pharmaceutical composition which composition comprises an insulin sensitiser and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier therefor, wherein the composition is arranged to provide a modified release of the insulin sensitiser and the use of such composition in medicine.

Claims (9)

1 . A sustained release pharmaceutical composition in the form of a unit dose multilayer tablet for once daily administration, which composition comprises:

a) 2 mg to 12 mg of 5-[4-[2-(N-methyl-N-(2-pyridyl)amino)ethoxy]benzyl]thiazolidine-2,4-dione, optionally in a pharmaceutically acceptable form; and

b) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier therefor;

wherein the composition is arranged to provide a combination of non-modified and sustained release of 5-[4-[2-(N-methyl-N-(2-pyridyl)amino)ethoxy]benzyl]thiazolidine-2,4-dione, optionally in a pharmaceutically acceptable form and said composition is a multilayer tablet wherein at least one layer comprises a sustained release matrix and at least one other layer comprises a non-modified release matrix.

2 . A composition according to claim 1 , wherein the sustained release matrix comprises a polymer selected from the group methacrylates, methylcellulose, and hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose having a nominal viscosity of 4000.

3 . A composition according to claim 1 , wherein the non-modified release matrix comprises a polymer selected from the group ammonio methacrylic acid copolymer Type B, methacrylates, cellulose acetates, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate, and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate.

4 . A composition according to claim 1 , comprising 5-[4-[2-(N-methyl-N-(2-pyridyl)amino)ethoxy]benzyl]thiazolidine-2,4-dione maleate salt.

5 . A composition according to claim 2 , comprising 5-[4-[2-(N-methyl-N-(2-pyridyl)amino)ethoxy]benzyl]thiazolidine-2,4-dione maleate salt.

6 . A composition according to claim 3 , comprising 5-[4-[2-(N-methyl-N-(2-pyridyl)amino)ethoxy]benzyl]thiazolidine-2,4-dione maleate salt.
