Abstract

The invention relates to azeotropic and azeotrope-like mixtures of HFC-32, HCl, and Cl 2 , and processes for separating the azeotrope-like mixtures of HFC-32 and HCL and HFC-32, HCL and Cl 2 .

Claims (7)

1. An azeotrope-like composition, which consists essentially of difluoromethane (HFC-32), HCl and Cl 2 .

2. The composition of claim 1 having a vapor pressure of about 45±3 psia at about −59° C.

3. The composition of claim 2 consisting essentially of from about 0.25 to about 20 weight percent HFC-32, from about 70 to about 99.5 weight percent HCl and from about 0.25 to about 13 weight percent Cl 2 .

4. The composition of claim 2 which consists essentially of from about 0.25 to about 15 weight percent HFC-32, from about 80 to about 99.5 weight percent HCl and from about 0.25 to about 5 weight percent Cl 2 .

5. The composition of claim 2 which consists essentially of from about 0.25 to about 10 weight percent HFC-32, from about 95 to about 99.5 weight percent HCl and from about 0.25 to about 3 weight percent Cl 2 .

6. A method of forming an azeotropic or azeotrope-like composition comprising combining HFC-32, HCl and Cl 2 in amounts sufficient and under conditions effective to form azeotrope-like composition containing HFC-32, HCl and Cl 2 .

A method of forming an azeotropic or azeotrope-like composition which consists essentially of combining from about 1 to about 20 weight percent HFC-32, from about 70 to about 98 weight percent HCl and from about 1 to about 13 weight percent Cl 2 , which composition has a vapor pressure of from about 45 psia to about 55 psia at a temperature of about 59° C.
