Abstract

A self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus is disclosed which includes at least first and second sliding boxes. A first screw member having a tapered end and a threaded body is disposed within the first sliding box, and a second screw member having a tapered end and a threaded body disposed within the second sliding box. An adjuster adjusts the height of the sliding boxes. The screw members are screwed into vertebral bodies in order to fuse the vertebral bodies together. A plurality of the self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatuses may be attached together and/or integrated via a plate or cage. Also disclosed is a cervical facet staple that includes a curved staple base and at least two prongs attached to the bottom surface of the curved staple base.

Claims (24)

1. A self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus comprising:

a first sliding triangular portion, wherein the first sliding triangular portion includes a first integral screw guide having a first predetermined angle and a second integral screw guide having a second predetermined angle;

a second sliding triangular portion, positioned relative to the first sliding triangular portion;

a first screw member and a second screw member each having a tapered end and a threaded body, the first screw member disposed in the first integral screw guide at the first predetermined angle and the second screw member disposed in the second integral screw guide at the second predetermined angle, wherein the first screw member traverses the first sliding triangular portion and the second screw member traverses the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion; and

an adjuster that adjusts a sliding position of the first sliding triangular portion with respect to the second sliding triangular portion to simultaneously adjust a height and a depth of the self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus.

2. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the first and second screw members are medially aligned.

3. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the first and second screw members is laterally aligned.

4. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 3 wherein both the first and second screw members are laterally aligned.

5. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein one of the first and second screw members is laterally aligned and the other screw member is medially aligned.

6. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second sliding triangular portions has a substantially triangularly shape.

7. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion include a sliding rail and ridged surfaces.

8. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion include holes for bone grafts.

9. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 8 wherein the adjuster includes a screw.

10. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein one of the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion includes a sliding rail, and

wherein the other of the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion includes a rail insert that engages the sliding rail.

11. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein one of the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion includes a plurality of sliding rails disposed on a side facing the other of the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion, and

wherein the other of the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion includes a plurality of rail inserts that engage the plurality of sliding rails.

12. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein one of the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion includes an external surface having a plurality of ridges.

13. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion includes an external surface having a plurality of ridges.

14. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein one of the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion includes a hole for bone grafts.

15. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion includes a hole for bone grafts.

16. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein one of the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion includes a plurality of holes for bone grafts.

17. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the first predetermined angle extends in a different direction from the second predetermined angle.

18. The self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the adjuster includes a screw that engages each of the first sliding triangular portion and the second sliding triangular portion.
