Abstract

Various compositons, including particularly aerosol compositions, containing fluorinated olefins, including particularly tetra- and penta-fluorpropenes, in a variety of applications are disclosed.

Claims (34)

1 . An aerosol comprising at least one fluoroalkene of Formula I:

XCF z R 3-z   (I)

where X is a C 1 , C 2 , C 3 , C 4 , or C 5 unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted radical, each R is independently Cl, F, Br, I or H, and z is 1 to 3.

2 . The aerosol of claim 1 wherein X is a substituted C 2 radical.

3 . The aerosol of claim 1 having a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of not greater than about 1000.

4 . The aerosol of claim 1 wherein said at least one fluoroalkene is a compound of Formula II:

where each R is independently Cl, F, Br, I or H

R′ is (CR 2 ) n Y,

Y is CRF 2

and n is 0 or 1.

5 . The aerosol of claim 4 wherein Y is CF 3 .

6 . The aerosol of claim 5 wherein at least one R on the unsaturated terminal carbon is H.

7 . The aerosol of claim 6 wherein n is 0.

8 . The aerosol of claim 4 wherein n is 0.

9 . The aerosol of claim 3 wherein Y is CF 3 and n is 0.

10 . The aerosol of claim 1 wherein said at least one fluoroalkene comprises at least one tetrafluoropropene (HFO-1234).

11 . The aerosol of claim 10 wherein said at least one tetrafluoropropene is HFO-1234ze.

12 . The aerosol of claim 1 consisting essentially of one or more compounds in accordance with Formula (I).

13 . A sprayable composition comprising the aerosol of claim 1 .

14 . The sprayable composition of claim 13 further comprising material to be sprayed.

15 . The sprayable composition of claim 14 wherein said material to be sprayed comprises at least one cosmetic material.

16 . The sprayable composition of claim 15 wherein said at least one cosmetic material is selected from the group consisting of deodorants, perfumes, hair sprays, cleaning solvents, lubricants and combinations of these.

17 . The sprayable composition of claim 15 wherein said material to be sprayed comprises at least one medicinal material.

18 . The sprayable composition of claim 17 wherein said at least one medicinal material comprises a biologically active substance.

19 . The sprayable composition of claim 17 wherein said at least one medicinal material comprises a drug.

20 . The sprayable composition of claim 17 wherein said at least one medicinal material comprises a therapeutic agent.

21 . A spray cleaner comprising the aerosol of claim 1 .

22 . A lubricant comprising the aerosol of claim 1 .

23 . A medicinal aerosol comprising the aerosol of claim 1 .

24 . The medicinal aerosol of claim 23 further comprising a medicament.

25 . The medicinal aerosol of claim 24 wherein further said medicament comprises a beta-agonist.

26 . The medicinal aerosol of claim 24 wherein further said medicament comprises a a corticosteroid.

27 . A metered dose inhaler comprising the aerosol of claim 1 .

28 . A personal care product comprising the aerosol of claim 1 .
