Abstract

“Automatically presenting content to an occupant of a vehicle as the vehicle traverses a route (e.g., during a test drive or other drive event). Content items are associated with data tags placed throughout the route. A data tag reader on the vehicle reads each data tag as the vehicle traverses the route, and the content item associated with the read data tag is presented to the occupant of the vehicle. Audio and/or video of the occupant may be captured and stored on a computing device remote from the vehicle. The captured audio and/or video represents feedback from the occupant during the drive event.”

Claims (49)

1. A system comprising:

a plurality of stationary data tags, each of said stationary data tags positioned at a predetermined, fixed location along a predetermined, fixed route, each of said stationary data tags having a unique value and each of said stationary data tags indicating a position along the predetermined, fixed route;

a data tag reader for reading each of the plurality of data tags, said data tag reader positioned on a vehicle which traverses the predetermined, fixed route so that the data tag reader traverses the predetermined, fixed route when the vehicle traverses the predetermined, fixed route;

a central memory area separate and apart from the stationary data tag for storing central memory data, said central memory data comprising:

(1) data defining the unique value of each of the stationary data tags along the predetermined, fixed route; and

(2) data defining a plurality of content items, each of said plurality of content items corresponding to at least one value each of the plurality of stationary data tags, said plurality of content items relating to the vehicle characteristics, wherein the stationary data tags do not store the content items;

a presentation device positioned on the vehicle; and

a processor positioned on the vehicle and configured to execute computer executable instructions for:

reading the value from each of the plurality of data tags via the data tag reader as the vehicle traverses the predetermined, fixed route and as the vehicle and the data tag reader on the vehicle move relative to the stationary data tags;

responsive to said reading, accessing the central memory area to compare the read value to the plurality of content items stored in the central memory area;

when the read value corresponds to at least one of the plurality of content items, selecting the content item from the plurality of content items stored in the central memory area which corresponds to the read value; and

presenting on the vehicle via the presentation device the selected content item from the central memory area to an occupant of the vehicle.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the central memory area is remotely accessed via a wireless connection.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the presentation device comprises one or more of the following accessed via a wireless connection: a speaker, a display, a speaker embedded in the particular vehicle, and a display embedded in the particular vehicle.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is a processor embedded in the particular vehicle.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle characteristics comprise an instruction for navigating the particular vehicle along the predetermined, fixed route.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of content items comprises narration, vehicle training information, prompts, questions, and warnings.

7. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a camera for capturing audio and video data of the occupant in response to the presented, selected content item.

8. The system of claim 7 , further comprising another processor, located remotely from the particular vehicle, for receiving the captured audio and video data from the camera in real-time.

9. The system of claim 8 , further comprising correlating the captured data with the presented, selected content to create an analysis of the particular vehicle.

10. The system of claim 8 , further comprising voice activation software for transcribing the captured data to enable textual queries.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the data tag reader comprises a radio frequency identification reader.

12. A method comprising:

defining a predetermined, fixed route for a vehicle to traverse;

positioning a plurality of data tags at stationary locations along the defined, predetermined, fixed route, each of said data tags indicating a position along the predetermined, fixed route;

defining a plurality of content items each associated with at least one of the plurality of data tags, said content items different from position information and different from the predetermined fixed locations;

storing the plurality of content items in a memory area, wherein the data tags do not store the content items, said memory area separate and apart from the plurality of data tags;

reading a value from each of the plurality of data tags via a data tag reader as the vehicle traverses the predetermined, fixed route;

responsive to said reading a particular value of a particular tag, accessing the memory area corresponding to the particular read value of the particular tag to the plurality of content items stored in the memory area;

when the particular read value corresponds to at least one of the plurality of content items, selecting the one content item from the plurality of content items stored in the memory area which corresponds to the particular read value; and

presenting on the vehicle via the presentation device the selected content item from the memory area to an occupant of the vehicle.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

reading a first value from a first data tag;

reading a second value from a second data tag; and

determining whether to select the content item as a function of the first value or as a function of the second value.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein determining comprises:

determining a signal strength associated with the first data tag and the second data tag; and

selecting the content item based on the data tag with a higher value of the determined signal strength.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein determining comprises determining, based on a priority associated with each of the first data tag and the second data tag, whether to select the content item as a function of the first value or as a function of the second value.

16. A system comprising:

a device for receiving position information from a radio navigation system, said device positioned on a vehicle, said position information describing a position of the vehicle along a predetermined, fixed route;

a memory area for storing data defining a plurality of predetermined locations along the predetermined, fixed route, said memory area further storing a plurality of content items each associated with at least one of the plurality of predetermined locations, said plurality of content items relating to vehicle characteristics associated with a plurality of vehicles, said content items different from position information and different from the predetermined fixed locations, said memory area positioned on the vehicle;

a presentation device positioned on the vehicle; and

a processor positioned on the vehicle and configured to execute computer executable instructions for:

receiving the position information via the device as the vehicle traverses the predetermined, fixed route;

responsive to said receiving, accessing the memory area to compare the received position information to the plurality of predetermined locations stored in the memory area;

when the received position information corresponds to at least one of the predetermined locations, selecting the content item from the plurality of content items stored in the memory area which is associated with the corresponding predetermined location; and

presenting on the vehicle via the presentation device the selected content item from the memory area to an occupant of the vehicle.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the radio navigation system comprises a global positioning system.
