Printer unit with LCD touch screen on lid
View Patent ↗A printer unit includes a casing. The casing defines an internal cavity and includes a lid which can be opened to expose the internal cavity. An upright media supply tray extends from the casing and is configured to support print media. A picker mechanism is mounted to the casing. The picker mechanism is configured to engage the print media in the supply tray and feed individual sheets of the print media into the internal cavity. A print engine is positioned in the internal cavity. The print engine includes a media transport means which can transport the individual sheets and feed them past a printhead assembly for printing. An output tray is retractably mounted relative to the casing and is configured to collect printed sheets of print media from the print engine. A user interface in the form of an LCD touch screen is mounted on the lid and can enable a user to control the operation of the printer unit.
1. A printer unit comprising:
a casing defining an internal cavity and having a lid which can be opened to expose the internal cavity;
an upright media supply tray extending from the casing and configured to support print media;
a picker mechanism mounted to the casing, and configured to engage the print media in the supply tray and feed individual sheets of the print media into the internal cavity;
a print engine positioned in the internal cavity, and having a media transport means which can transport the individual sheets and feed them past a printhead assembly for printing;
an output tray retractably mounted relative to the casing and configured to collect printed sheets of print media from the print engine; and
a user interface in the form of an LCD touch screen arranged on the lid to enable a user to control operation of the printer unit,
wherein the print engine includes a cradle unit and a replaceable cartridge unit received within the cradle unit in a releasable manner, the cartridge unit including a body and an ink storage module assembly comprising a plurality of ink storage modules, the ink storage module assembly being configured to be received in the body from one side, the printhead assembly being mounted to the body at an opposite side to said one side, the body including a substantially rectangular frame having an open top in which the ink storage modules are received and a pair of posts projecting from the frame at either end to mount a maintenance assembly to the body, the body further having an ink outlet molding defining ink outlets corresponding to respective ink storage modules, each of the ink outlets having a pair of inwardly extending silicone ring seals co-molded with the ink outlet molding and configured to seal against ink inlets of the printhead assembly.
2. A printer unit as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the ink storage module assembly has a docking interface for docking with a refill supply of ink to replenish ink in the storage module assembly.
3. A printer unit as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the ink outlet molding is ultrasonically welded to the rectangular frame.
4. A printer unit as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the media supply tray has a pivotally mounted support panel at its free end which defines a plurality of parallel support ribs.
