Abstract

A locking mechanism is provided for locking a removable data carrier in a support structure of an electronic device. The locking mechanism includes a movable locking element, indicating unit and a locking element control unit. The movable locking element is movable between a locked position and an unlocked position, where the locking element, in its locked position, prevents the removal of the data carrier from the support structure.

Claims (35)

1. A locking mechanism for locking a removable data carrier in a support structure of an electronic device provided in a vehicle, comprising:

a movable locking element movable between a locked position and an unlocked position, where the locking element, in its locked position, prevents the removal of the removable data carrier from the support structure;

an indicating unit indicating that a locking of the removable data carrier is required; and

a locking element control unit controlling the position of the locking element, where when the indicating unit indicates that a locking of the removable data carrier is required, the locking element control unit moves the locking element to its locked position and where the locking element is positioned, in its locked position, such that an opening through which the removable data carrier is removable from the support structure is at least partly blocked.

2. The locking mechanism of claim 1 , where the indicating unit comprises an ignition status detecting unit detecting whether ignition of the vehicle is switched on or off and indicating that a locking of the removable data carrier is required when the ignition is switched off.

3. The locking mechanism of claim 1 , where the indicating unit comprises a switch, where an operation of the switch indicates that a locking of the removable data carrier is required.

4. The locking mechanism of claim 1 , where the locking element comprises a flap which, in its locked position, covers at least partly the opening.

5. The locking mechanism of claim 1 , where the locking element comprises a flap which, in its locked position, completely covers the opening.

6. The locking mechanism of claim 1 , where the locking element comprises a bolt which, in its locked position, protrudes from an edge of the opening in a direction inwardly of the opening and substantially in parallel with a plane defined by the edge of the opening.

7. The locking mechanism of claim 1 , where the opening has a slot-like shape.

8. The locking mechanism of claim 1 , where the data carrier comprises:

a memory card;

a micro drive card;

a SIM (subscriber identity module) card; or

a CA (condition access) module.

9. The locking mechanism of claim 1 , where the electronic device comprises:

a vehicle radio system;

a vehicle navigation system;

a vehicle entertainment system; or

a hands-free speaking system in a vehicle.

10. The locking mechanism of claim 1 , further comprising a timer, the timer delaying the movement of the locking element to its locked position for a predetermined period of time after detecting that the ignition of the vehicle is switched off.

11. The locking mechanism of claim 1 , where the locking element moves to the unlocked position upon detecting that the ignition of the vehicle is switched on.

12. The locking mechanism of claim 1 , where the locking element moves to the unlocked position upon detecting that a switch is operated.

13. A method for locking a removable data carrier in a support structure of an electronic device provided in a vehicle, comprising the step of:

indicating that a locking of the removable data carrier is required, where upon indication that a locking of the removable data carrier is required a movable locking element movable between a locked position and an unlocked position, the locking element, in its locked position, preventing the removal of the data carrier from the support structure, is moved to its locked position and where the movable locking element is positioned, in its locked position, such that an opening through which the removable data carrier is removable from the support structure is at least partly blocked.

14. The method of claim 13 , where a detection of a switching off of the ignition of the vehicle indicates that a locking of the removable data carrier is required.

15. The method of claim 13 , where an operation of a switch indicates that a locking of the removable data carrier is required.

16. The method of claim 13 , where the moving of the locking element to its locked position is delayed for a predetermined period of time.

17. The method of claim 13 , further comprising the step of unlocking of the removable data carrier in the electronic device by moving the locking element to its unlocked position upon detecting that the ignition of the vehicle is switched on.

18. The method of claim 13 , further comprising the step of unlocking of the removable data carrier in the electronic device by moving the locking element to its unlocked position upon operation of the switch.

19. An electronic device of a vehicles comprising:

a support structure for supporting a removable data carrier;

a movable locking element movable between a locked position and an unlocked position, where the locking element, in its locked position, prevents the removal of the removable data carrier from the support structure;

an indicating unit indicating that a locking of the removable data carrier is required; and

a locking element control unit controlling the position of the locking element, where when the indicating unit indicates that a locking of the removable data carrier is required, the locking element control unit moves the locking element to its locked position and where the locking element is positioned, in its locked position, such that an opening through which the removable data carrier is removable from the support structure is at least partly blocked.
