Abstract

A tensioning system for a mobile telescopic crane having a telescopic mast includes at least one tensioning cable for bracing the telescopic mast and at least one tensioning winch mounted on the crane superstructure for tensioning the cable. The tension in the cable creates a pressure bias within the mast. The winch is movable with respect to said superstructure of the crane and movement of the winch relative to the superstructure also imposes tension on the tensioning cable.

Claims (19)

1. A tensioning system for a mobile telescopic crane having a superstructure supporting a telescopic mast, comprising:

at least one tensioning cable for bracing the telescopic mast; and

at least one tensioning winch mounted on the crane superstructure for tensioning said cable to thereby create a pressure bias within said mast;

wherein said winch is movable with respect to said superstructure of the crane and movement of the winch relative to the superstructure imposes tension on said cable.

2. The tensioning system as set forth in claim 1 , wherein the tensioning winch is connected to counterweights of the crane.

3. The tensioning system as set forth in claim 1 , wherein said tensioning winch is arranged behind the point where the mast joins the crane superstructure.

4. The tensioning system as set forth in claim 3 , wherein the tensioning winch is connected to counterweights of the crane.

5. A tensioning system as in claim 1 , wherein said tensioning winch comprises a weight for tensioning said cable.

6. A tensioning system as in claim 5 , wherein said tensioning winch is positioned with respect to the telescopic mast to serve also as a counterweight for said telescopic crane.

7. A tensioning system as in claim 5 , wherein said tensioning winch takes up and pays out said tensioning cable.

8. A tensioning system as in claim 6 , wherein said winch is movable vertically with respect to the crane superstructure.

9. A tensioning system as in claim 1 , wherein said winch is movable vertically with respect to the crane superstructure.

10. A tensioning system as in claim 1 , comprising at least two tensioning cables, at least one tensioning cable being positioned to each side of the telescopic mast.

11. The tensioning system as in claim 10 , comprising a tensioning winch for each said tensioning cable, said tensioning winches being arranged on the crane superstructure on opposite sides of the luffing plane of the telescopic mast of the crane and at a distance from the luffing plane whereby the tensioning cables can absorb a substantial proportion of loads having components perpendicular to the luffing plane.

12. A tensioning system as in claim 11 , wherein each said tensioning winch takes up or pays out a respective tensioning cable.

13. A tensioning system as in claim 11 , wherein said winches are each movable with respect to the crane superstructure.

14. The tensioning system as set forth in claim 1 , wherein said at least one tensioning cable extends along and creates a pressure bias in an upper cross sectional portion of the mast, further comprising at least a second tensioning cable extending along and creating a pressure bias in a lower cross sectional portion of the mast.

15. The tensioning system as set forth in claim 14 , comprising at least two of said second tensioning cables extending along the lower cross sectional portion of the mast, at least one such second tensioning cable extending on each side of the mast.

16. The tensioning system as set forth in claim 1 , wherein each tensioning winch is attached to the crane superstructure via one or more damping units.
