PRINTER HAVING CAPPING MECHANISM FOR DUPLEXED PRINTHEADS
A printer is provided having opposed pagewidth printheads arranged to print on opposite faces of print media transported therebetween and to move linearly from respective first positions to a second position, and a pagewidth capping member arranged to move linearly to cap the printheads at the second position
1 . A printer comprising:
opposed pagewidth printheads arranged to print on opposite faces of print media transported therebetween and to move linearly from respective first positions to a second position; and
a pagewidth capping member arranged to move linearly to cap the printheads at the second position.
2 . A printer as claimed in claim 1 wherein the capping member is arranged to move in a direction normal to the direction of transport of print media past the printheads.

A printer as claimed in claim 1 wherein the capping member comprises a body portion formed from a rigid material and capping portions each having an integrally formed elastomeric material lip portion and a cavity surrounded by the respective lip portion, each lip portion being peripherally configured to surround ink ejection nozzles of the respective printhead.
4 . A printer as claimed in claim 1 wherein the capping member is formed effectively as a one-piece member.
5 . A printer according to claim 1 , further comprising a purging member associated with the capping member and arranged to receive material that is purged from the printheads.
