Abstract

A method for validating a payment card financial transaction includes receiving a financial transaction approval request message derived from a payment card that is able to change its magnetic card data as elicited by a card reader. Out-of-sequence transactions encoded in a dynamic number included in said magnetic card data are detected. The dynamic number is compared with a last valid number that was previously stored in a database. An approval message is issued to enable the completion of a financial transaction with the payment card.

Claims (30)

1. A method for validating a payment card financial transaction comprising;

receiving a financial transaction approval request message ( 208 ) derived from a payment card ( 202 ) able to change its magnetic card data ( 204 ) as elicited by a card reader ( 206 ); and

detecting out-of-sequence transactions encoded in a dynamic number included in said magnetic card data ( 204 );

comparing said dynamic number with a last valid number that was previously stored in a database; and

issuing an approval message ( 218 ) to enable the completion of a financial transaction with said payment card ( 202 ).

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the detecting further comprises using dynamic numerical analysis (DNA) for comparing said dynamic number with said last valid number.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the receiving further comprises receiving a usage number incremented by write heads internal to said payment card; and

the detecting further comprises incrementing said last valid number and comparing the incremented number with said usage number received from said card.

4. A payment card financial transaction validator, comprising:

means for receiving a financial transaction approval request message ( 208 ) derived from a payment card ( 202 ) able to change its magnetic card data ( 204 ) as elicited by a card reader ( 206 ); and

means for detecting out-of-sequence transactions encoded in a dynamic number included in said magnetic card data ( 204 );

means for comparing said dynamic number with a last valid number that was previously stored in a database; and

means for issuing an approval message ( 218 ) to enable the completion of a financial transaction with said payment card ( 202 ).

5. The validator of claim 4 , further comprising:

means for using dynamic numerical analysis (DNA) for comparing said dynamic number with said last valid number.

6. The validator of claim 4 , further comprising:

means for receiving a usage number incremented by write heads internal to said payment card; and

means for incrementing said last valid number and comparing the incremented number with said usage number received from said card.

7. A payment card financial transaction validation processing center ( 210 ), comprising:

a device for receiving a financial transaction approval request message ( 208 ) derived from a payment card ( 202 ) able to change its magnetic card data ( 204 ) as elicited by a card reader ( 206 ); and

a dynamic numerical analysis (DNA) and database ( 211 ) for detecting out-of-sequence transactions encoded in a dynamic number included in said magnetic card data ( 204 ), and for comparing said dynamic number with a last valid one that was previously stored in a database, and for issuing an approval message ( 218 ) to enable the completion of a financial transaction with said payment card ( 202 ).

8. The validation processing center of claim 7 , further comprising:

a processor for analyzing the validity of a PIN value included in said financial transaction approval request message ( 208 ).

9. The validation processing center of claim 7 , wherein:

the processor for analyzing the validity of said PIN value limits the issuance of said approval message ( 218 ) to there having been detected in said dynamic number a unique number generated from a factor that included a user's personal information.

10. The validation processing center of claim 7 , further comprising:

a transmitter to send a card acquirer approval message ( 212 ) to a payment card issuer ( 214 ); and

a controller for allowing said financial transaction with said approval message ( 218 ) if an authorization message ( 216 ) is received from said payment card issuer ( 214 ).
