Abstract

Compositions ( 3 ) and methods of using such compositions ( 3 ) to condition, clean, or disinfect the flow path of a conduit ( 8 ) of a microfluidic devices ( 16 ), such as flow cytometers or liquid chromatographs.

Claims (10)

1 - 10 . (canceled)

11 . A composition which reduces a number of viable microorganisms in a flow path of a microfluidic device, comprising:

a. an amount of water between about 30% and about 90% by volume (v/v); and

b. an amount of diacetone alcohol (DAA) between about 10% and about 70% by volume.

12 . The composition which reduces a number of viable microorganisms in a flow path of a microfluidic device of claim 11 , wherein said amount of water comprises between about 50% and about 70% by volume and said diacetone alcohol (DAA) comprises between about 30% and about 50% by volume.

13 . The composition which reduces a number of viable microorganisms in a flow path of a microfluidic device of claim 12 , wherein said amount of water comprises about 60% and said diacetone alcohol (DAA) comprises about 40% by volume.

14 . The composition which reduces the number of viable microorganisms in a flow path of a microfluidic device of claim 12 or 13 , wherein said flow path of said microfluidic device comprises a flow path of a flow cytometer.

15 . The composition which reduces the number of viable microorganisms in a flow path of a microfluidic device of claim 14 , where said composition reduces the number of viable microorganisms in said flow path of said flow cytometer to substantially zero in a duration of time between about 30 seconds and about ten minutes.

16 . The composition which reduces the number of viable microorganisms in a flow path of a microfluidic device of claim 15 , wherein said amount of composition has a location in a variable volume container having a flexible wall which provides an external surface on which an amount of gas exerts and amount of pressure sufficient to generate a flow of said composition in said flow path of said flow cytometer.

17 - 73 . (canceled)
