Abstract

A method of contacting the interior of the cable with a fluid mixture comprises supplying the fluid mixture to the interior. The fluid mixture includes (A) a liquid anti-treeing agent and (B) a water-reactive compound or a water-reactive anti-treeing agent. The liquid anti-treeing agent (A) and the water-reactive compound or the water reactive anti-treeing agent (B) are present in amounts to obtain a fluid mixture with a boiling point ≧90° C.

Claims (27)

1 . A fluid mixture comprising:

(A) a liquid anti-treeing agent having a boiling point >90° C.; and

(B) a compound different from (A) and having a diffusion coefficient of at least about 1×10 −7 cm 2 /sec at 50° C. in low-density polyethylene, the compound (B) selected from a water-reactive compound or a water-reactive anti-treeing agent;

wherein (A) and (B) are present in amounts to obtain a fluid mixture with a boiling point ≧90° C.

2 . The mixture as claimed in claim 1 wherein the fluid mixture has a diffusion coefficient ≧6.1×10 −8 cm 2 /sec at 50° C. in low-density polyethylene.

3 . The mixture as claimed in claim 1 wherein the compound (B) is selected from the group of trialkylalkoxysilanes, dialkyldialkoxysilanes, and mixtures thereof.

4 . The mixture as claimed in claim 3 wherein the liquid anti-treeing agent (A) is an organoalkoxysilane selected from the group of phenyltrimethoxysilane, diphenyldimethoxysilane, phenylmethyldiethoxysilane, and phenylmethyldimethoxysilane, and mixtures thereof.

5 . The mixture as claimed in claim 1 wherein the liquid anti-treeing agent (A) is selected from the group of aromatic ketones, fatty alcohols, organoalkoxysilanes, and mixtures thereof.

6 . The mixture as claimed in claim 1 wherein the liquid anti-treeing agent (A) is an organoalkoxysilane selected from the group of phenyltrimethoxysilane, diphenyldimethoxysilane, phenylmethyldiethoxysilane, and phenylmethyldimethoxysilane, and mixtures thereof.

7 . The mixture as claimed in claim 1 wherein (A) and (B) are present in a weight ratio of 99.9/0.1 to 90.1/9.9 (A)/(B).

8 . The mixture as claimed in claim 4 wherein (A) is present in about 95 parts by weight and (B) is present in about 5 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight of the fluid mixture.

9 . A method of contacting the interior of a cable with a fluid mixture wherein the cable has a central stranded conductor encased in a polymeric insulation and has an interstitial void space in a region of the conductor, said method comprising supplying the interstitial void space with a fluid mixture comprising:

(A) a liquid anti-treeing agent having a boiling point >90° C.; and

(B) a compound different from (A) and having a diffusion coefficient of at least about 1×10 −7 cm 2 /sec at 50° C. in low-density polyethylene, the compound (B) selected from a water-reactive compound or a water-reactive anti-treeing agent;

wherein (A) and (B) are present in amounts to obtain a fluid mixture with a boiling point ≧90° C.

10 . The method as claimed in claim 9 wherein the fluid mixture has a diffusion coefficient ≧6.1×10 −8 cm 2 /sec at 50° C. in low-density polyethylene.

11 . (canceled)

12 . The method as claimed in claim 9 wherein the compound (B) is selected from the group of trialkylalkoxysilanes, dialkyldialkoxysilanes, and mixtures thereof.

13 . The method as claimed in claim 12 wherein the liquid anti-treeing agent is an organoalkoxysilane selected from the group of phenyltrimethoxysilane, diphenyldimethoxysilane, phenylmethyldiethoxysilane, and phenylmethyldimethoxysilane, and mixtures thereof.

14 . The method as claimed in claim 9 wherein the liquid anti-treeing agent (A) is selected from the group of aromatic ketones, fatty alcohols, organoalkoxysilanes, and mixtures thereof.

15 . The method as claimed in claim 9 wherein the liquid anti-treeing agent (A) is an organoalkoxysilane selected from the group of phenyltrimethoxysilane, diphenyldimethoxysilane, phenylmethyldiethoxysilane, and phenylmethyldimethoxysilane, and mixtures thereof.

16 . The method as claimed in claim 9 wherein (A) and (B) are present in a weight ratio of 99.9/0.1 to 90.1/9.9 (A)/(B).

17 . The method as claimed in claim 13 wherein (A) is present in about 95 parts by weight and (B) is present in about 5 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight of the fluid mixture.

18 . The mixture as claimed in claim 1 wherein the compound (B) has a boiling point of <90° C.

19 . The method as claimed in claim 9 wherein the compound (B) has a boiling point of <90° C.

20 . The mixture as claimed in claim 4 wherein (A) and (B) are present in a weight ratio of 99.9/0.1 to 90.1/9.9 (A)/(B).

21 . The method as claimed in claim 13 wherein (A) and (B) are present in a weight ratio of 99.9/0.1 to 90.1/9.9 (A)/(B).
