Abstract

The price tag system of the present invention has the advantages of reliability, easy to install and low cost. Using the system of the invention, the prices can be easily updated even from a remote location. In addition, if there is one defective panel, the defective panel can be easily removed and replaced without any changes made to the base structure, which also greatly reduces the operation costs.

Claims (18)

1. A price tag system, which comprises:

a) a base structure having an open slot;

b) a display panel inserted through said open slot into the base structure wherein said display panel comprises a plurality of display cells filled with an electrophoretic fluid and said filled display cells are sandwiched between a common electrode layer and a segment electrode layer comprising segment electrodes wherein said segment electrodes comprise electrode contacts;

c) a circuit board comprising a driver circuit and contact pads; said contact pads are capable of being in contact with said electrode contacts to provide connection between the display panel and the circuit board.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein said driver circuit is programmed through an I/O interface or wireless communication.

3. The system of claim 1 wherein said base structure further comprising a side-locking panel.

4. The system of claim 1 wherein said base structure further comprising a front plate.

5. The system of claim 4 wherein said front plate has a locking device.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein said electrode contacts are thin film conductor or thick film conductor.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein said contact pads are in the form of an electrical connector.

8. The system of claim 7 wherein said electrical connector is an edge connector, elastomer connector, leaf-spring contacts, conductive adhesive or gold bumps.

9. The system of claim 1 wherein each of said electrode contacts has a corresponding contact pad.

10. The system of claim 1 wherein said circuit board is part of the base structure.

11. The system of claim 1 wherein said driver circuit is integrated into the display panel.

12. The system of claim 1 wherein said circuit board further comprises controller and communication circuits.

13. The system of claim 12 wherein said driver, controller and communication circuits are integrated into the display panel.

14. The system of claim 1 wherein said filled display cells are sealed with a sealing layer.

15. The system of claim 14 wherein said sealing layer is a polymeric layer.
