Abstract

A scheme for redirecting information between a messaging host system and a wireless mobile data device that is associated with a computer connected over a network to the messaging host system. In one embodiment, a method comprises one or more of the following: automatically detecting receipt of a mail item from a sender at the messaging host system, wherein the mail item is addressed to a recipient's mail address that is associated with the messaging host system and is viewable via the computer; processing a copy of the mail item to add address information associated with the recipient's wireless mobile data device and to encrypt the copy of the mail item for transmission to the wireless mobile data device over a wireless network; and upon receiving an encrypted reply mail item from the wireless mobile data device and upon decrypting the reply mail item, interfacing the reply mail item to the messaging host system such that the reply mail item is sent to the sender with the recipient's mail address as its originating address.

Claims (8)

1 . A method of redirecting information between a messaging host system and a wireless mobile data device that is associated with a computer connected over a network to the messaging host system, the method comprising:

automatically detecting receipt of a mail item from a sender at the messaging host system, wherein the mail item is addressed to a recipient's mail address that is associated with the messaging host system and is viewable via the computer;

processing a copy of the mail item to add address information associated with the recipient's wireless mobile data device and to encrypt the copy of the mail item for transmission to the wireless mobile data device over a wireless network; and

upon receiving an encrypted reply mail item from the wireless mobile data device and upon decrypting the reply mail item, interfacing the reply mail item to the messaging host system such that the reply mail item is sent to the sender with the recipient's mail address as its originating address.

2 . A system for redirecting information between a messaging host system and a wireless mobile data device that is associated with a computer connected over a network to the messaging host system, the system comprising:

means for automatically detecting receipt of a mail item from a sender at the messaging host system, wherein the mail item is addressed to a recipient's mail address that is associated with the messaging host system and is viewable via the computer;

means for processing a copy of the mail item to add address information associated with the recipient's wireless mobile data device and to encrypt the copy of the mail item for transmission thereof to the wireless mobile data device over a wireless network;

means for receiving an encrypted reply mail item from the wireless mobile data device, and upon decrypting the reply mail item, for interfacing the reply mail item to the messaging host system such that the reply mail item is sent to the sender with the recipient's mail address as its originating address.
