Abstract

Various methods and apparatuses for measuring a state parameter of an individual using signals based on one or more sensors are disclosed. In one embodiment, a first set of signals is used in a first function to determine how a second set of signals is used in one or more second functions to predict the state parameter. In another embodiment, first and second functions are used where the state parameter or an indicator of the state parameter may be obtained from a relationship between the first function and the second function. The state parameter may, for example, include calories consumed or calories burned by the individual. Various methods for making such apparatuses are also disclosed.

Claims (42)

1. A system for identifying and reporting a physiological status of an individual, comprising:

at least one physiological sensor associated with the body of at least one person generating sensor output signals, wherein the at least one physiological sensor comprises at least two physiological sensors selected from the group consisting of a heart rate sensor, a skin temperature sensor, a skin conductance sensor and a GSR sensor;

a memory circuit containing: (i) at least one stored mathematical operation for the identification of a physiological status of said at least one person from said sensor output signals, (ii) collected sensor output signals relating to measured physiological data of a person having a known physiological status; and

a processor configured to:

(i) receive sensor output signals from the at least two physiological sensors associated with the body of said individual,

(ii) apply said at least one stored mathematical operation to said sensor output signals associated with the body of said individual to derive a physiological status of said individual; and

(iii) modify said at least one mathematical operation in accordance with said derivation of said values of said physiological status of said individual such that said at least one modified mathematical operation is weighted to determine a likely conclusion regarding said individual's physiological status,

wherein said physiological status of said individual is at least one of: calories consumed and sleep quality.

A system as described in claim 1 , wherein said physiological status of said individual further includes at least one of: conditioning, mood, alertness levels, readiness, strength, endurance, stillness level, carbohydrate intake, fat intake, protein intake, water intake, alcohol intake, pain level and mindcentering activity.

3. A system according to claim 1 , wherein said at least one sensor is affixed to a device adapted to be worn on the skin of said individual.

4. A system according to claim 3 , wherein said processor is mounted within said device.

5. A system according to claim 1 , wherein further comprising an input device for receiving input from said individual.

6. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising a transceiver circuit, in electronic communication with said processor, for transmission of said sensor output signals.

7. A system according to claim 6 , wherein said processor further comprises multiple processors.

8. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the system uses the sensor output signals and the processor to identify a cumulative condition of the individual.

9. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one modified mathematical operation is selected from the group consisting of two algorithms having at least one modified mathematical operation and three algorithms having at least one modified mathematical operation.

10. A system according to claim 7 , wherein the cumulative condition is selected from the group consisting of fatigue, being-in-the-zone, hypothermia, dehydration, fever and weakness.

11. A system for identifying and reporting a physiological status of an individual, comprising:

at least two physiological sensors selected from the group consisting of a heart rate sensor and a skin temperature sensor associated with the body of at least one person generating sensor output signals;

a memory circuit containing: (i) at least one stored mathematical operation for the identification of a physiological status of said at least one person from said sensor output signals, (ii) collected sensor output signals relating to measured physiological data of a person having a known physiological status; and

a processor configured to:

(i) receive sensor output signals from the at least two physiological sensors associated with the body of said individual,

(ii) apply said at least one stored mathematical operation to said sensor output signals associated with the body of said individual to derive a physiological status of said individual; and

(iii) modify said at least one mathematical operation in accordance with said derivation of said values of said physiological status of said individual such that said at least one modified mathematical operation is weighted to determine a likely conclusion regarding said individual's physiological status,

wherein said physiological status of said individual is sleep quality.

The system of claim 11 , wherein said physiological status of said individual further includes at least one of: calories consumed, conditioning, mood, alertness levels, readiness, strength, endurance, stillness level, carbohydrate intake, fat intake, protein intake, water intake, alcohol intake, pain level and mind-centering activity.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein said at least one sensor is affixed to a device adapted to be worn on the skin of said individual and wherein said processor is mounted within said device.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the at least one modified mathematical operation is selected from the group consisting of two algorithms having at least one modified mathematical operation and three algorithms having at least one modified mathematical operation.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the system uses the sensor output signals and the processor to identify a cumulative condition of the individual.

16. A system according to claim 15 , wherein the cumulative condition is selected from the group consisting of fatigue, being-in-the-zone, hypothermia, dehydration, fever and weakness.

17. A system for identifying and reporting a physiological status of an individual, comprising:

at least one physiological sensor associated with the body of at least one person generating sensor output signals;

a memory circuit containing: (i) at least one stored mathematical operation for the identification of a physiological status of said at least one person from said sensor output signals, (ii) collected sensor output signals relating to measured physiological data of a person having a known physiological status; and

a processor configured to:

(i) receive sensor output signals from at least one sensor associated with the body of said individual,

(ii) apply said at least one stored mathematical operation to said sensor output signals associated with the body of said individual to derive a physiological status of said individual; and

(iii) modify said at least one mathematical operation in accordance with said derivation of said values of said physiological status of said individual such that said at least one modified mathematical operation is weighted to determine a likely conclusion regarding said individual's physiological status,

wherein the system uses the sensor output signals and the processor to identify a cumulative condition of the individual,

wherein the cumulative condition is selected from the group consisting of fatigue, being-in-the-zone, hypothermia, dehydration, fever and weakness.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the at least one modified mathematical operation is selected from the group consisting of two algorithms having at least one modified mathematical operation and three algorithms having at least one modified mathematical operation.

The system of claim 17 , wherein the at least one physiological sensor comprises at least two physiological sensors selected from the group consisting of a heart rate sensor, a skin temperature sensor, a skin conductance sensor and a GSR sensor, and wherein the processor is adapted for receiving sensor output signals from the at least two physiological sensors associated with the body of said individual.

The system according to claim 17 , wherein said physiological status of said individual is selected from the group consisting of: calories consumed, conditioning, mood, alertness levels, readiness, strength, endurance, stillness level, carbohydrate intake, fat intake, protein intake, sleep quality, water intake, alcohol intake, pain level and mind-centering activity.
