Abstract

An adaptor is provided for use in connection with an apparatus for lubricating a strand pulled through a conduit. The adaptor includes an entry end for receiving the strand and an exit end through which the strand exits the adaptor. A coupling is provided at the entry end of the adaptor for mating with a coupling on the lubricating apparatus. The exit end of the adaptor is sized to fit within conduit through which the strand is to be pulled.

Claims (16)

1 . An apparatus comprising:

an adaptor to adapt an end of a conduit to enable it to receive a coupling of a lubricator when the end of the conduit is held in a wall of a manhole, the adaptor including an annular body having one end to insert into the end of the conduit and another end having a coupling to receive the coupling of the lubricator.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 in which the coupling of the adaptor comprise threading.

3 . The apparatus of claim 1 in which the one end of the annular body is tapered.

4 . The apparatus of claim 1 in which the adaptor comprises two pieces.

5 . The apparatus of claim 1 in which the two pieces comprises halves of a cylinder.

6 . The apparatus of claim 1 in which the adaptor is formed of plastic.

7 . An adaptor for use in connection with a lubricator for lubricating a strand to be pulled through a conduit, said adaptor comprising:

a wall defining an entry end through which the strand enters the adaptor and an exit end through which the strand exits the adaptor;

a coupling at said entry end for mating with a coupling of the lubricator; and

wherein an outer dimension of said wall at said exit end is sized to fit within the conduit through which the strand is to be pulled.

8 . The adaptor of claim 7 wherein in said coupling at said entry end is provided by a thread on an outer surface of said wall.

9 . The adaptor of claim 7 wherein said wall is tapered such that said an outer dimension of a portion of said wall proximate said exit end is smaller than an outer diameter of a portion of said wall proximate said entry end.

10 . The adaptor of claim 7 wherein said wall is provided by first and second sections each defining a portion of said entry end and a portion of said exit end.

11 . The adaptor of claim 7 wherein said first and second sections of said wall are releasably joined together.

12 . The adaptor of claim 11 wherein a plug is provided on said first section and a notch for receiving said plug is provided on said second section.
